I was in my local Triumph dealers this morning - during the 20 mins I was there a guy came in with genuine interest in securing one.

Even if the wheels come off an old Yamaha

I was told that over the next couple of years Triumph have SEVEN new models planned - new not rehashed.

Hmm maybe a 1800cc triple - now that would suit the USA

Actually I doesn't look like a Harley, it looks like a japanese cruiser that wants to be a Harley ...

I always thought that Triumph bikes looked stunning - pretty much every model - and was very recognizable. This one just looks bland.
And - don't get me wrong - I rode a lot of japanese cruisers which I all liked - but Triumph should stay away from looking like that. Blech ...

    ... and the pipes! YUCK!

What you are looking at there is the basic platform. Just like Harley squeezes $6K on average on accessories - the 'huge selection' of customising options will give you the chance to dress it up how you like.

I agree, and regardless, what's the bet it sells by the boatload...?

It looks ripe for customising!!! Not a bad blank canvas, worth a test ride.

You'll lose your money. Maybe not here, but globally.

The angst amuses me greatly. Particularly the guy with the XJ - like he's got taste in what makes a 'cool' bike.

The most common bleat I read from Americans about the 'Harley set' is how common they are. 'Individuals like everybody else.'

Tbird is slightly bigger and more powerful than the HD it competes with - on 2 counts. There will be a big bore kit available that makes it just slightly larger and more powerful than a big bore Hog.

It will have a large cutomisation inventory.

Never mind the "pubic" hair, I cant grow "public" hair any more....!

I still don't think the new Triumph cruiser is fugly though, I am just satisfied with my "old model" Tiger! John.

"Details remain scarce, but we do know it has a 1594cc engine making something in excess of 100bhp, belt drive and an unnecessarily large 200/70-18 rear tire. Aside from competent handling that’ll be spoiled by that big tire, the looks indicate a depressingly boring Harley clone. Yes, we know it has an ugly parallel twin, but honestly, cover it up with your thumb and you can’t tell the difference between the Thunderbird and every other generic cruiser made in the last 20 years. Come on Triumph, you can do better."

I agree with this - it's Eggs Zachary what I thought when I first saw it.
Why not blaze a new trail with a slightly different cruiser styling? If it's well thought out and executed, Shirley it would sell?
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Looks like an excellent platform to start with.Cruisers are a differant kettle of fish to sports bikes. Its all about torque and comfort. Not about going around corners at 200000000000 zillian KPH & stopping in 1 second flat doing a wheely & a stoppy at the same time,Comon you know what i mean....Im sure it will have good brakes & reasonable handling ,for a cruiser,& bags of torque & it fills a gap in the Triumph range.I know guys that are hanging out for this big cube Triumph twin . yes its all to compete against the Harley ,they are the bench mark after all.Looks to me that this bike will do a good job. Also remember there are alot of riders that wont touch a Jap cruiser so this gives them another choice.Being a cruiser rider,to me it looks great

I like it. Yes i like it and I imagine it'll look great in the flesh. To me its a simple design, smooth lines, uncluttered. I do like it.
