Thinking of buying a Ducati 900 SS...

I am thinking about getting a ( more) modern bike for the summer, I have a Ducati Darmah but think a newer 900 ss might just fit the bill for Sunday runs and the odd bit of touring. I like the mid 90's fully faired ones.
Any thoughts, tips, things to watch out for etc.
The BMW 'toaster' R50/5 will have to be sacrificed.....

Get the injected 900SS, they started in 99 I think.
Nice bikes, user friendly, go ok.

Sounds like a good idea, lots of bargains out there. As Dooly points out later models are better

    Ducatis

Was kinda hoping for what to look for tips.
I can't say the 1997 on does much for me styling wise.
    Whats wrong with carbs?

I know Ducatis are the best otherwise I would not have kept my 900SD for 21 years, I feel I just need something newer. I had a GPZ 900 for a while but I prefered the Darmah.
Had a ride on my mates Honda V twin 1000 thing and it was ok, he did not want to give the Darmah back.
I like the look of this:

Nothing wrong with carb ones, I had one, but a 750 a while back, 97.
Just injection is so much easier for starting, running etc.
Nice bikes pre injection 900s, I'd have another one as a spare bike.
Don't set the world on fire with performance compared to a Jappa but still neat.
The engines are good, not many issues, just do the belts when needed, not a big job.

The thing is, the later Ducatis, from about 1997 onward, are simply more reliable. If you want a superbike then the watercooled 4 valve engine will pin your ears back into an insane grin. Can't fault my ST4.
