actually the XN85 is a great bike. i own a cx turbo and an XN and the cx is a frustrating bike to ride, buzzes through on boost so quick that you're always having to change gears and deal with lag etc.
the xn i took over the paekakariki hill and didn't change gear for probably forty corners, off boost its a tad gutless for size as one would expect but it rolls through onto boost so smoothly and no need to change gear. fullfloater makes it well set up on the suspension front the only downside is the little fairing blade that deflects the wind into my face.
So does anyone have a pic of this fabled RGV? awful lot of fuss for no pic
Looks like it has been a good buy, haven't seen a VJ23 for sale since this, V, T, or otherwise.
Pete might be on the money too, been bugger all happening in the KR1S department too!
Now RS250s on the other hand, the absolute deluge of those for sale is out of control... people like Haldanes bringing in 5 year old shitters with no history and hawking them for $10k is laughable.
MC28s have been a bit cold lately, another has just popped up, but only been 2 or 3 for sale since this thread started. They look to be going for $6k for a roughy, $8k for a tidy one. Other NSRs are all over the place.
VJ22 RGVs have settled in the $4-low 5k range, which is probably about all they're worth, so long as they're tidy.
That 23 was good buying, and if you don't blow it up, a reasonable investment![]()

Think the confusion here bob is between the 1st batch of wire wheelers that appeared unexpectantly just before the 6 hour in response to the cbr and the later bunch of twenty available to the public that came in the next year. The 1st lot were rumoured to be broken out of a bond store overnight and modified here, cams, carbs braided lines exhausts gutted etc....the following 20 did come from japan built to the same specs so as to verify the eligibility of the 1st lot.
At the time supplemanrty parts listings had just been banned ie bikes like the XJ650 the season before could use XS11 shocks and fork springs in proddie racing at the time as Yamaha Nz put out supplementary parts lists with these components in the parts manuals. With this practice banned any hot bits had to be fitted factory.
Honda had the last laugh though when the next season the wire wheeled katana came out and was the hot favourite for the 6 hour, Gus Lui bought in a way over the top CBR that by all accounts never slowed between the chequered flag and the teams van before being whisked to a waiting aircraft and a trip home to aus.
