hmmmm a few years back I was touring in the Sth Is on the Buell with my man who also had a Buell, both old models by todays standards... we pulled up at this bar where a nice looking Heritage Nostalgia was parked outside in the prime pose spot and the owner was preening himself not far away... Well by the time we had got a beer and wandered back outside ya couldn't see our bikes for the crowd gathered around them.
No-one was interested in the Harley. They all wanted to know about the Buells.
Its like that EVERYwhere I go.

And now that I've blinged the old girl I get people hanging out car windows at intersections giving me the thumbsup.

(Oh yeah I think it helps that I'm a chick too...)

I don't mind, I don't get picked on by the cops, I don't often have toss pots try to race or kill me, I don't get people plonking their snotty nosed shitty nappied kids on it, I don't come back to my bike to find finger prints and drool marks all over it, I don't get stared at and best of all when the hubby and I stop somewhere, I can go off and get my lunch and coffee and get the prime seat while he and the other guys are off wanking over his bike. Bliss!!!! And the main thing is I love my bike, and that's all that matters!

I've had a couple of younger blokes say that the SV looks really cool (obviously non bikers), but most of the time it's like a stealth jet. No one even seems to notice it (perhaps it's the grey/blue colour), which is just the way I like it.

I think people look at me thinking a small short kid riding a 1000cc. How does he manage that blah blah....that's just what I think...

HOWEVER...... after saying this, out on Sunday, bike parked beside the gixxer and #1's SV, other bikes parked along the street a little including a yummy looking tri-colored 1098, wander towards our bikes after lunch and here are three youngsters (young adults/teenagers) looking at my bike, my first thought is 'better not be dripping your ice creams all over my bike', but could hear their admiring murmurs as I got closer and then they commented on #1's alarm on her bike when she blipped it off.
So we buggered off and ended up catching up to them as they were driving along up the road, so I gave them a appreciative slip down a gear and ring it out as I passed them (I could see them looking out the back window as we approached), I would've pulled a wheelie for showboat purposes, but alas, can only do accidental power wheelies at the moment.
Anyway.... I was quite chuffed that my bike got some admiring attention from people who aren't old enough to need a mobility scooter!

OI are you implying they weren't admiring my or Niges bikes?!

Ok well they probably weren't admiring mine but I do recall an appreciative eyebrow being raised when I started it up. Looks plain and is just an SV but it's sure got a shexxxy growwwilll

Years a go on my black beast... XJ 650 Special with added touring fairing and Givi Side panniers and top box (as well as kited RT for beign a Courier so had a 9 foot wip ariel and cell phone ariel as well as am/fm for radio)

Riding along between Napier and Hastings...then full lights and sirens... looked at my speedo 90kph (to much traffic to go much faster)

Pulled over and the cop just wanted to look at the bike... well I swore and cursed at him and asked showed WOF Rego, and asked are you issuing me with any form of infringement... He said no... So I just rode away with out saying another word and left the cop standing there...

The VTR has aways turned heads now it more often due to the extra noise and rumble... :P

I bought my Katana 1100 at the end of '83 & the thing that sticks is people staring at it & kind of shaking their heads in disbelief & wandering off, probably more about the skinny 18 year old getting on it than anything else.
The best "friendmaker" i had was a '76 BMW R60/6 in about '95. I only had to clip the panniers on it & pootle down to McDonalds & everyone wanted to know how my circumnavigation of the globe was going & how many countries i had visited so far. Occasionally i had a bit of fun with the people for entertainment.
I remember one guy asking me expectantly, "so. . . how far have you come today"? I looked at the speedo thougthfully for a few seconds & replied, "hmmm, looks like about eight kays"

Most attention I got was delivering a parcel to an older gentleman who commented..."nice looking bike - looks like something out of James Bond!"
(I thought - yeah and I look as old as Sean Connery hey?)

And one of the young lady reps who calls on me who said..."THAT!!! You ride THAT??????? Phooooooooo!" (I think she thought I was way too old to ride a bike.....)cow!

Little kids always look on in awe...and my grandson (aged 2) calls me "poppa bike".......I think he's already an addict......

On the other hand, this morning as I pootled along the urban street, there on the side of the road, complete with political slogan signs and a small cohort of supporters, was one of the local election candidates (won't mention his allegiance since I am apolitical [=think they ALL stink]).....he was grinning and waving to each and every cage...but when I came along on the bike he turned his back on me.......goddam bastard!!!! I was tempted to run him over but I didn't want to get poo all over the bike.......

    Lolly.
Same thing this morning for me, except there was a veritable gaggle of them, inanely jiggling their party signs and waving. I ignored them behind my dark visor (had to concentrate on the 'tards I was sharing the road with anyway). As if I'm gonna vote for someone just because they and/or their cronies wave a sign at me! If anything, it encourages me not to vote.
I'd be quite happy if the local incumbent emailed me, or came around for a drink. He has my email address, from when I emailed him about the 'cheesecutters' (and he replied quite quickly), and I'm sure he could find my actual address. With 5 voters in our household, it'd be worth a visit.
As long as he brought the beer...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
