    Good skills, son.

Once you've mastered the first gear change, she all becomes easier. Just ask Loosebruce.

    Hey Sparks

1)Do you power up the wheelie in first?
2)What speed do you start the wheelie at?
3)When it comes up, does it come up evenly and how do you know when you've reached the balance point?
    4) When you are "balanced", do you just change gears as normal?

So far, what I do is at about 60 in first I give it a good twist of the wrist and a small tug, and the front comes up. BUT, as soon as it does I shit myself and back off. The odd times I get it up "high" it turns out to be literally 2 feet, but it feels like I almost flipped the bike??? Which makes me wonder how it feels to reach the balance point. I know at SOME point you have to stand, and look over the front. I guess this will counteract the feeling that you're about to flip over backwards. I manage to power it up in second, from about 120km/h and a bigger tug, but can't get them so high yet from there.

My best guess is I need to hold the throttle open longer when trying from second, and slightly longer when in 1st (a dangerous gear to be practicing power wheelies in, on a r1 being a beginner)

Can't a just pay someone for a "Wheelie Skill Upgrade"?

Right-O mate. Come in and see me, I wanna discuss the finer points of wheeling your bike. As I've had a couple of rides on one now, I feel qualified to explain it. One of my workmates, who is better at wheelies than me, rode the R1 yesterday, back to back with my bike. His conclusion was the same as mine.

Simple answer, "Don't fucken do it!"

The R1 feels like a 600 to 8 grand, then goes sick. It's too unpredictable power delivery for a novice. Plain and simple.

Buy a Buell/Gixxer/TL1000S. Christ, Jimbos 600 is 1/2 the effort to wheelie as your bike. Sell it before you hurt yourself.

(Fucken R1's got good brakes though!)

    Bloody hell

Why does everyone have to be so honest, and right! I know, and now that you say it maybe I'll stop trying to get it up in first. I think it's relatively safe in second though, as you'll have more warning.

First gear SMALL wheelies are good for when you're in a 50 zone.

I will be getting that Buell at some stage, hopefully sooner rather than later. It's effortless compared to "the one"

Yeah when i test rode the 04 R1 i found it a lot harder to wheelie....well not harder your just doing a whole lot more speed b4 it comes up and by the time ya click second your doing over 145kph, look farkn nice tho, as for R1 brakes....they rock i love out braking all the suzi's down the straight
