Here's a summary of my problem:
I bought an Autocom Active Rider kit by mail order from Oz shortly before Christmas (the NZ distributer never called me back with prices). I primarily wanted to use this piece of kit in order to connect my Bel XR950, Nokia mobile and MP3 player and for pillion communication when required.
The MP3 player and mobile phone fit and work ok (just ok I audio quality isn't as good as I'd like). A problem then arose when I attempted to connect my radar detector up. The instructions stated that I could connect it via the music input 2 1/2 mm jack. I tried this but the audio quality was appalling due to earth feedback. I phoned Autocom in the UK and surprise, surprise I needed another part, despite the instructions on the box saying otherwise. So I ordered what is in effect a splitter/isolation unit that supports the phone and a radar detector/GPS unit and inputed intop the Autocom main unit via the phone input.
Now this is where I get really frustrated, the audio level that I now get out of the headset for the radar detector (which is integrated into my helmet) is so low that is in effect useless. Upon phoning Autocom they tell me that it should work (duh!) and that there must be a mismatch between the output levels or impedence of the Bel audio levels and that of the Autcocom kit (duh!). Other than stating the obvious, they can't help.
I should point out that when I plug earpiece directly into the Bel unit the audio level is fine. Nice n loud.
So, I'm at my wits end - does anybody have any ideas as to how to solve this, apart from returning the kit, replacing the Autocom isolation transformer or building either passive or active amplification circuit?
I’ve already:
a)removed the Bel’s internal speaker in an attempt to alter the headset's output impedance
b) changed the splitters input line SMD resistor for different values in an attempt to drag up the audio level up
c)screamed, sulked and wished I’d never bought Autocom kit
Thanks
