Just talked to family in Te Aroha
mum & dad are in town had no power since about 3.30pm already a few trees down & no power but they had thermos fill & had a hot meal for lunch instead of dinner
bro is about 6 ks away in country on his farm, two trees already uprooted in the tanker driveway .. one deep rooted totara & macrocarpa ripped out by the roots , just been out & braced his garage doors as they threatened to blow in, the cottage across the road that they rent out has had their power lines down & then a milk tanker came along & hooked them & completely ripped them out, & they had no power since about 5.30pm
so they are having a pretty rough time, at least he only has a dozen odd cows that have calved at present .. & will prob be without power for the next day or two, but as long as they all stay safe thats the only thing that matters ...
Have toKarma ... Justice catches up eventually !!
Been a crappy day here but it appears to be over for us. Still rainy and windy but no menace left. We have been really lucky here. Just got a text from a friend who lives about 12 kms away, power back on. Rather be over warned than under prepared for sure. Good luck further south this storm has a real sting in its tail!
Storm, what storm?
Have had no power outages at all today, just a bit of wind and rain. Have been listening in on the scanner, the fireys been run off their feet from Jo Public having their roof lift or tree threatening or fallen on their house. Heard 1 tree had got 2 houses in Titirangi. Bet they will be glad to sit down and enjoy a hot cuppa at the end of it.
As for around upper Albany, only a bit of crap on the roads blown off the trees but nothing else to intdicate a huge storm.![]()

The wind is likely to return to the Auckland area later tonight, but from the south-west as the centre of the low heads towards East Cape. We've been fairly sheltered from the Easterlies so far in central Auckland.

Was there a storm? Rode from east Auckland to the Shore and back, didn't notice anything much
Bit of light rain and a few wind gusts. Lots of tree debris on the road, and some local flooding. Only "oo'eer" moment was (ridiculously enough) going down Symonds St over the motorway overbridge, and a gust of wind started propelling me inexorably into the kerb, lean and countersteer as ever I might. Answer to that one was more gauntlet. That straightened it up.
However , I see the barometer has dropped clean off the bottom of the scale, never seen that happen before, so maybe it's still on its way.

Yeah, the whole of Titirangi lots it's power last night due to a transformer which blew up directly outside my house, big noise. Lots of sparks. Very cool to see.
But other then the mass power outages this storm has been severely dissapointing in Titirangi..
Bit of rain, wee bit of wind, lots of debris over the road, but nothing I haven't seen before and there's definately been worse. Over hyped!

time for round 2
^^ After 18 hours without power down the road from Nagash in Laingholm, I have purchased a gas cooker.
(It's just about a given that our power goes out in this type of weather - though 18 hours is a record for my 4 years out 'there')
Hooray for candles, and laptops with enough battery life to watch a DVD:
As for bangs - was it the transformers? It took 3 attempts to get the power back on in the 'Holm - first two resulted in >1minute's power and then an explosive 'BANG' somewhere in the neighbourhood, and then no more power...
Bring on the next one - warm food we shall have!![]()
They reacon another one is on the way
Its all quiet down here.
still as..
mayebe the calm before the storm
Very little rain here, came back home from far north because of forecast and it isn't happening-yet!
