04 RSVR Factory

Who,s got one? A mate of mine has just bought an 04 factory & since i surfed around a bit it sounds like they have one or two issues.
Being 1: swingarm recall
2: dodgy rear brake & clutch master cylinders
3: Speedo resetting itself
Anyone had any of these problems & if so is their anyone who youd recommend to take it to ,to get sorted in the South Isl.?
And...who'd you recommend in the Sth Isl. to service the Ohlins on it.

I will have a look next time I see it to see if its had its swingarm replaced. Is the Factory motor any different than a Mille motor?

Sounds & definitely looks like a great buy,with only a minor graze on the right handside fairing,but the 04 with only 300kms on it is sounding a tad dodgy what with the speedo supposedly able to reset itself.....

Yeah 04 with 300kms on it soundslike dash reset itself to me.
Aprilia should be able to check if swingarm has had replacement.(with frame number)

Rear brake is an issue for all aprilia rsvr even new, there is a specific way to bleed it which helps, but does not solve the issue.

There is a recall on some of the clutch m/c check out http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=44.

Motor in the 04 factory has more hp over the normal rsvr 04, where the 05+ rsvr and factory have same motor after that.

Ohlins best contact robert taylor who he recomonds in SI to service them.

they are awsome handling bikes ohlins all round, and the frame make magic, not huge HP, compared to modern bikes, but its not always about HP its getting the hp it got down to road.

Get along awsome,few small niggles, but everything is live able, to have a bike you don't see every 3rd person have

I've got an 05 Factory, awesome bike. Only very early 04's have dash reset probs. The swingarm is a free safety recall and you can tell if its been done just by checking how the lower chain/toe guard is mounted, on a link arm if it's the new type or directly to the arm if old type. The rear brake can be an issue, but who uses it anyway?? clutch has been no trouble at all. The bike is totally awesome!!

Yeah my mates totally stoked with it,he did a 1000 ks over the weekend & ha s got the biggest of grins...
Ive found a link on a site somewhere with pics of the offending swingarm & it sounds like its not been done,but I'll see the bike again on friday so we'll know then for sure

I had the 01 RSV, Took a 04 Factory out for the weekend, man jumping back on the RSV after the factory was like getting on a tractor!! The Ohlins made that much of a difference!! Hence just put an Ohlins on the S3

Ive had a look at the swingarm,& yup its the original problem one....so folks,who'd you recommend to take it to,in either Nelson or Christshurch.My mate is keen to ride it till it cracks but im trying to get him to do it as soon as possible 'cause you know them Italians might take ages to snd him one.
Im so happy to see his big stupid grin , & the passion reignited in his life.
The sod can ride to!!

basically any 'Authorised Aprilia Dealer'. I think its emoto (now) in Christchurch?
They could also have told you whether or not its been swapped from the VIN number... but thats a moot point now anyway

There is also an issue with the link plates at the bottom of the rear shock breaking. If you want more info on this refer to scott2ride on this forum or go to AF1forum.com and do a search. This problem is said to have resulted in a few crashed bikes around the world, including Scotts here in NZ. Last I heard Aprilia were refusing to acknowledge the problem but that may have changed. In any event, I believe Scott and others have worked on having replacements manufactured

scott and aprilia not changed.

yes i got some plates for our rsvr thru scott
