Parking at work...

Yay, a serious response (mind you, I didn't help haha).

Any reccomendations on bike covers? I've asked at a few bike stores but I'd rather be told from somebody not trying to sell me something, ya know?

I bought a good oxford cover originally for my vt250fe, Its even lined so not to harm your bike , and has reflectors on it, and has vents for moisture relief also clips under bottom fairing
i recommend not putting on wet tho as bike still tends to moisten up a tad.
is a good investment and even fits my 600.

Wow ... things must be real bad up your way .. I take my bike to work most days park in the building in a public car park ... and always forget to put on the disc lock I have ... bugger cos it cost money.

When I don't park under the building I park out front ... and try to remember the disc lock.

thing to remember is ... the more things you put on the more you have to remember to take off.

Steve, knowing 'where' you work, there is no way in hell I'd be parking it at the front door mate! The scum of the earth will be walking past it every 2 minutes or less, some days.. Talk to the security guards and park it somewhere round back, where no bugger goes, except maybe delivery people. Make sure you park it where they won't be reversing into it though. And I agree with Nasty, the more locks and shit you put on, the more you have to remember to take off, and one day you will forget one! or fairly soon you'll get so sick of removing them all, you'll flag it altogether. Do the staff there not have a designated carpark? That'd be safer than parking at the front door!

It will have a padlock on the back brake rotor, a disc lock on the front, steering lock, a chain lock locking it to a secure object, and maybe even a cover. I also have a few other ideas but will not state these as I don't want any bastard thiefs knowing how to unsecure my bike!

GEEEEZUS - are you sure your taking enough precautions... I would suggest that the pack you use to carry all that in will probably be big enough to double as a bike cover - thereby saving you a few dollars

my suggestion would be to park it out the back of the big yellow building round the dock area somwhere.
As long as it is out of the way where is is not going to get knocked over you boss shouldn't have to much of an issue with it

i park my bike out the front from 5pm to 4am where i work.... and my boss even pays for 2 bouncers to watch it for me

but really out of sight out of mind, if the theif wants it he will get it no matter how you secure it

Yeah, the smartest idea is to park it out the back. I saw a scooter parked out the back last time I was there, so I'll see if the boss will let me park it round there. Shouldn't be a problem.

BTW: The bike's coming together now, all the painting and repairing's done, just waiting on the front cowling in the post, and it'll all be done. YAAAAAY!!

Yeah I could give that one a go, however the boss doesn't like me that much at the moment (laid a formal complaint against them through the department of labour)... Although I caught a shoplifter today so I'm momentarily on their good side. Might ask the security guard tomorrow about the measures I could take to hiding the bike somewhere other than the front.

Absolutely, also no one will know what sort of bike it is etc... under the cover, also they don't get a chance to look at what sort of lock you have. looks obvious to when they lift up the cover ( I used to tie it around the wheels so ya can't just lift it without untying )

Just get a decent bike cover, most thieves can't be bothered / haven't time to remove them... so they look for summit easier to pinch.

one that fits over it would be good also one that maybe has draw strings around the bottom so you can pull it tight around the wheels

I've decided that I won't ride it to work. I'll only be working at the current employment for another month or so. But I'll try find somewhere that I can work that will have good motorcycle parking (out of sight, out of mind - as they say).
