    Adventure bike for me?

    Hi,
want a cheap as chips bike for adventure riding.
dont want to sell my dirt bike so the ol girl has said it better be cheap.
    few grand i guess.
i dont really care what it looks like and i dont care which brand.
found a few people have asked about one or two brands but im open to any brand.
will prob be riding off road more than on.
I read all your posts about the rides you do and they always sound great so thats what i want a bit off.
i dont know anyone here in taranaki that goes on them but i think sensei had an xt not sure if he does these rides or not.
    cheers.
    any help appreciated
    Karl

How about that? Probably a bit far north to go look at though.
Looks a bit rough round the edges, but least you wont get too upset when it gets dropped.
    Nevermind the Bollocks

after your rmz a 2-3k adventure bike will feel like a soggy sack of shit.

that tenere on tardme would be really cool with a full resto though

    what about this?

There are quite a few adventure riders in the Naki although to date they don't seem to go on the Kiwi Biker rides.

You say you will be riding off road more than on, dont you have your Suzuki for that? Although you will most probably find once you get into it that your MX bike will get less and less use (I have only done one trail ride on my DRZ this year)

There are plenty of options out there, the fun is in the looking!

I'd scratch around for a higher km's XT600, but the suspension WILL be disappointing, and don't expect more than 125kmph out of it on the highways (whoops, I mean racetrack or closed road!!). At the end of the day, how much maintenance do you want to do if you want it cheap? Maybe a older DRZ400 with some road bits bodged onto it to make it kinda legal. Have fun shoppin'.

looks like i might have to spend a bit more.
but i know it will be nothing like my rmz but thats what will be fun aswell as i dont want a bike that will mimic what i already have.
i just want to have fun on a bike.
    i had thought about a Dog Rooter 400 ,
i dont mind doin work to a bike , but im not into havin a bike break down all the time out on the trail.
it not fair on everyone else i reckon.
had thought around 3-4k to spend.
maybe even sell the rmz and get a wr 450 or ktm 450 or somthing like that.
would these still go ok on the mx track you reckon.
    i cant see why not.
even if i got jimmy to do the shocks a bit more MXified.

High kms, but price is right. I reckon it'd be an ex rental, hence the km's high. If it is, it should have some service history. It's even got some extra wheels and bits, handy. Just watch top gear with these high km models, prone to being flogged out due being gutless on highway. Food for thought.

Hey mate, I'm after some of that adventure fun too, saving up for a decent dr650 at the mo, Be very interested in what you end up with and where you head off to play from the Naki, all the fun stuff seems to happen somewhere else.

Good thread, hope ya get sorted.
    Oh bugger

Looks like a great package: low mileage, all the mod cons plus the motard setup.

Shame we've got no idea how much he actually wants for it. Bidding is already 300% of start but hasn't hit reserve. Who the hell knows? My guess is around $8K or so, ppl are asking about that for good examples, without the motard gear. How you're supposed to work that out from a $1200 start I'll never know.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Looks like a $4000 reserve + whatever he wants for the extras.

I'd agree with Nordie, this KTM will be a bargain at $4000, just wait and see how bidding goes. Best bang for your buck for sure. These bikes usually go for anything over $7000 to $10,000. Hit that bid button there brother....

Yep, the XT could be about as good a cheap option as you'll get, & if you can spring for a bit more, that KTM would do all the same stuff but better & would be a good buy at anything under $6K

...but 60hp from an 02 640 - yeah right. 50hp max if std.

    Cheers
