plus I'm single, so the groping is all good, as they struggle to sit still. All depends how you look at it

I previously owned an 06 Tuono and traded that a year ago on a KTM 690 SM. As mentioned above, with end cans and a remap the Tuono becomes a different bike. Fuelling is perfect and it has plenty of instant grunt, but also revs out well. I recently took out an 08 Superduke for a test ride (courtesy of AMPS). Absolutely loved it. Handling and brakes were sublime (better than the Tuono). Fueling felt perfect to me but it is definitely well down on power and much softer delivery than the Tuono. Having said that, for where I'm at now, it has more than enough power to keep me happy and I am almost certain it will be my next bike.
I think you might be a bit disappointed if you want to use a 990 SM offroad. I think you will find it a bit like my 690 - a great road bike with Motard styling. With the 17 inch wheels at both ends my 690 becomes very nervous on the loose stuff. If you plan to do much of that then the KTM 990 Adventure is a brilliant bike. I chased one all the way around the South Island in 06 on the Tuono. He had adventure tyres on plus hard panniers and top box and there were times when I struggled to keep up. Then he hit some of the high country tracks around Queenstown and it was game over. I headed for the motel and parked up.

Crikey! Sounds like Gremlin is becoming like a Toe-Ranger crew! You should talk to DMNTD, he'd score you a KTM test ride out of nowhere ... after hes gone and thrashed it in for you!

Sounds like a good way to reward yourself on your birthday! Hmmm mine is coming up on the 17th ... Mebbe I should .... bad boy!

One of these naked is kinda fun too. Higher chance of being ignored when shopping for one though.

I really enjoyed a 10-20km stint on gravel on my zx10, with full sport/track tyres. People have also learnt I REALLY like roadworks. It depends what you want from gravel/roadworks I guess I don't want the adventure type stuff... but for handling skills, nothing beats controlling a bike on gravel. Best fun I have ever had is having the zx10 slightly sideways at 140kph on a gravel road, rear spinning up.

Now, back on topic... Boyd (ex honda) know something a bit more about "Sales 101: Turning interest into a sale"... I rang yesterday arvo enquiring, he said he would look into it and let me know and he rang back today, to let me know he could get hold of the 950, and was going to anyway, as he wanted to ride it.

He'll ring me in approximately a weeks time, as that is when it is due to be returned from somewhere else. Apparently KTM NZ brought in limited stock of the 990 supermoto this year, so that it why it is so thin on the ground.

Bit of a Bastard really, I feel your pain. Mate was after a 950SM end of last year, none in the country so AMPS got one in for him from Oz. He's done 8000k's on it so far & loving it. I get to ride it aswell & it's a great machine. Saying that I'd definately like to try the 990SM as I love the way my 05 SD puts it's power down compared to the 950.Bruce @ AMPS should be back next week I think, been on a bussiness trip to the KTM & Triumph Factory's, bastwad, what a shit job

What about a FZ1-N as another option for a Naked bike. I have a 2008 Demo that is run in if you want to try it while you are down in Hamilton.

Not a fan of yamahas, but I might take you up on the offer, after all, I never thought I would ever like the cb900, and its quite a hoot to ride (in fact, more enjoyable than the zx10).

I'll give you guys a ring when I have a better idea of when the 950sm is available to ride and when I expect to be down that way.

Should check my posts properly. I meant to post a pic of summer and got brooke by mistake! Sorry for the minor technical issue folks. At work we call that an i d 10 t error or a pebkac error.
