assuming the bike you wanted was still being produced, and you were to buy a new bike, would it be 4 stroke or 2 stroke and which best describes your riding

My personal favorite is the modern 250 4 stroke, easy as to ride, mega traction and engine braking.

But thats not to say i dont like the two stroke, would rather just ride a four, and leave the strokers to the pros.

Will be gutted to see the 2t phased out

As 4stroke stated got love the pure grunt of the 450/4s had a few 250/s just not the same not that they were bad bike lots a trick bits on them. so far the 450 is just fine straight out of the box.

Always been a 2T man myself.

Ride my 250 4 stroke so much faster than my 250 two stroke but it's not the same buzz. I love the feeling of drifting it out on a 2T, the sound and the smell is to die for. 4T's are way more rideable but I ride to have fun not to be the fastest out there. If I was racing it'd be on a thumper but i'm not hence the 2T

2t's were awesome in there day but 4t's have come so far & injection/electronics are advancing at a rapid pace that there will be even more power to come, although the way diesels are advancing and emission's etc from petrol 4t's we all may be riding them soon !!!

Uugghhh! Every time I get on a 4T or even try to roll one on to the trailer, they are sooooo heavy. They sound like a rattly can of the most rattly stuff you can get. Crack the throttle and it is wait... wait... wait for it, we're gonna make some power soon... uh, too late!

I might be faster on a modern small-bore 4T but 4Ts are heavy, noisy & dull. Part of the reason I ride (and race) is for the fun of it. 2Ts are exciting and don't have the weight or maintenance penalty.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Interesting read.

I'm going to be upgrading from my 1983 XL250R (117kg) at some point this summer.

Really torn between a KDX200 and some 250 4T. Quite like the look of Yamaha's etc. Not sure on which model would suit me for trail riding only.

Get an old twin shock XR if you don't like maintenance
Fill it up at the start of the season and you're set.

I must say that after a 3-hour cross country I wouldn't mind my engine in a modern(ish) frame with actual suspension and brakes

I love my 2 stroke cause I can work on it. No doubt when I get a 4 stroke (cause there is no option) I'll just figure it out. The thing that really puts me off a 4 stroke is the cost of parts and servicing.

voted 4t for trail riding, but it would be a 4t MX bike (KTM SXF250).

Just sold my CR250 so on the look out now for one!
