The DR's gearing was all wrong for that sort of stuff.
Needed to be pinned in 1.5th gear.
    47/14 terrortory.

Use the clutch boy!! That's what it's there for

Been up and down that hill a lot on the 640A, it's a good practice hill especially when it is a bit greasy. Needs clutching 2nd/3rd gear at times IIRC, 1st/2nd spins up too easily / revs out too much on the easier sections but doesn't need clutch unless you hit a big rock a little less than committed. Going down requires attention, too, it's very easy to get off-line or build up too much speed trying to float over nasties on an ill-chosen line.

It's a good hill to demonstrate that the 640 will not stall as long as you have the throttle open, no matter how low the revs. Thump thump thump. Just hang on, steer & pray and beware the front violently lofting when the rear thumps on a nice grippy rock...

Geez I wish I was racing this Sunday... on either bike...
    Cheers,
    Colin

myself & mate are going over Maunga - then to Hori Bay & have a look around Mt duppa/duffa late tomm morn if anyone wants to come. If it's as beautiful as today it should be a spectacular ride

We'll be leaving my place about 11am. We're off to HArry Potter so will check later on if anyone's keen.

Should be real fun!! Was tempted to take the KLR in & have a go but thought I'd give someone else a crack at the podium- wonder how many broken body parts will be carried out of there tomm.

45k laps for the seniors and they think it'll be 50min laps.
I'm sitting waiting for the first bikes to go past up the top of a hill about 35 min in.
    good cellphone reception here
Can finally hear some bikes. may be a while 'till I see them though...

Saw heaps of bikes going into the maitai. Looked like a big event. Shit I bet it was as slippery as two eels having a root in a bucket of snot. We went over the Maunga & everything not in the sun was dripping wet. I'd hate to think what some of those clay hills were like.

Cruised along the Hori Bay road & have to say it will be the fav afterwork ride for the summer. Excellent piece of gravel with little or no traffic lots of forestry roads & tracks to explore & a cool lil bay at the end Only thing missing is a coffee waiting for ya at the end of the road.

Headed up Mt duffa for a quick look.

The corner on the Maitai Road beside the first concrete ford (just after that new house that'll never see the sun) was a bit icey.

It's the first time I've ever held a 45 degree back wheel out slide for 20m...

    Nearly crapped myself.

Had time to get the thermos out and have a cuppa before it finished sliding...

We took the kids for a walk along there this morning & looked up at that house & just shook our heads... we saw a DR sliding around that corner... anyway we walked for another halfanhour turned back & by that time the DR was just getting traction again

Ya should've been at the rider training. Bowls of lollies to snack on, nice lunch, a certificate, a really cool pen to keep,

and I learnt a bit of stuff too about riding and stuff
