Adventure is where you find it. I'm more inclined to put the boundary at the licence plate. No rego, it's a trail (off-road only) bike/ride. Tents etc are not required for adventure, not one bit. Lots of adventure to be had buggering off with a road-legal enduro weapon, credit card & toothbrush. Ditto taking road bikes on gravel roads and worse - so the bike itself doesn't count... neither does the luggage.
Perhaps also the trailer can be a boundary - an adventure bike is one you can ride to the event.
"Adventure" I think is an American term, as Woodman said this part of the world uses dual-purpose bikes (not "dual sport" which is another Americanism). In this age of globalisation I don't think it is possible to avoid being Americanised (-ized) to some degree, especially since they are a major world power/consumer.
Cheers,
Colin

Righto you lot. Next tuesday, I'm going overseas to Canada for a few months. Working in a summer camp on Vancouver island. The GB is for sale at Nelson Motorcycle centre for $2000. New rear sprocket & tyre. Someone buy it!
Have a good time Brook & here's hoping the air force have a spot for a keen jet fighter pilot when you get back.
Mummy's gonna miss her lil diddums
Anyone else coming out to the XC up in St Arnurd on saturday? Nordie, you know the xr needs a run.
It'll be my first competition ride on the DRZ, would be great to have a few frendly faces around.

Should be there, circulating on the XR getting photos and video.
Lake Station is a fast track. Long open paddock sections. Not suited to the XR or me
I'll try and race the last 3 rounds though.
I think I scared enough riders last week with Gonzo. I'll let them recover...
BTW last weekends trail ridewas awesome. Although from the excellent pics the trail seemed tame, there were enough challenges to keep a big bike rider entertained for a few hours.
Gonzo was shod with some very cheap tyres (Torpedo7 innova supercross front $40 & Cycletreads "Viper" $60). They handled the terrain fantastically well. The off camber slices where either tyre would usually slide out didn't present any problems. The bike would stand vertically very easily.
The only issues were as the day wore on & some tight corners became chewed up the front wheel ploughed through a couple of times.
After a few laps I realised I could just tractor up & not give it snot like I'm used to with the more roady tyres. I did give a few lil 2strokes a good run for their money up some of the long hill climbs, although the rear shock (or my skills) did their best to buck my arse off.
I also learnt a little lesson re moving aside to let the faster guys thru. The appreciative response from the passing rider is to roost the friendly chap riding across the rocks cleared to the side of the trail. After a few times I started playing a little game - It was called "No I'm not going to get out of the way so try & get past my big fat arse & I don't care about my bike as much as you care about yours" They still roosted me after passing - I just got to delay them a bit.
A good fun ride with fluffybum & Nordie as well as catching up some other workmates. I will be taking the tyres straight off till the next trail ride & putting the bald ones back on.

Common zerax, other than doning the 6hr last year on the 640e this will be my first propper event on a bike thats almost suitable. Im sure the good guys can handle another mobile chicane other than me and nordie, if your gonna start a racing career it may as well be at a national round XC
more info on the nmcc website.
Padmei, the reason the guys were roosting you was probably due to the size of the rocks that you were throwing at them with the rear knoblie you've got on! Its amazing how the 640 could dig fist size rocks out of the ground and throw them around, i'm sure even a limp wristed KLR with a sharp tire could throw some goodies![]()
