Still got to arrange transport though. Membership card turned up in the post today.

Want me to bring a trailer over ^^? then you could be in charge of navigation to ride :P, probably would have to be an early start huh ?

Took the KLRenere and went for a nice pootle along the Maitai to the caretakers hut tonite. Saw a sifty looking guy on a DR heading the other way.
Got home & found the bloody headlite protector was gone. Pissed me off as I'm sure I would have noticed it falling off the front. Anyway ifanyone heads up that way keep a lookout.

    I was placing the tag.

Didn't recognise the bike with the whiteness 'till it was alongside.

    Well that was fun

The day didn't get off to a very auspicious start, with zeRax's van blowing a radiator hose on the way up Spooners. We thought the day was doomed but an AA tow back to Wakefield where they had a replacement hose meant we were mobile again and on-site by noon. Yay!

The advice was that I should manage the A-grade sections, but don't even think about the AAA grade bit. Our first 20km lap we stuck to the main loop, as it was greasy enough in places to be challenging. It was all on forestry tracks, big and small, no single track or anything of that nature. With decent tyres you'd get round on any adventure bike - a film of greasy clay-ish mud on top of a hard base mostly. But it wasn't as easy as it sounds - with Metzeler MC4 soft terrain MX tyres I was still sliding all over the place.

Second loop we had a crack at the A grade bits. First up was a single track straight down a spur. Steep enough for me to stop and paddle down the steepest bit. The next A grade was a beauty of a loose rocky uphill, basically up a fire break. Three quarters of the way up it got steeper and looser - and that was just my riding Z-man also came to a stop, so we bailed back down to a flat piece because there was no way of getting mobile on the slippery slope. Z made it up on the second try, I managed it on the 4th go, stopping at virtually the same point every time - pointed in different directions though! Interestingly traction was less of a problem than I expected, but keeping the thing pointed up the hill was hard.

The last A section wasn't that tough, but rather scenic overlooking the Tadmor valley I think. Just a slight detour off the track but nothing too tricky.

The last section of track wound along constantly crossing flooded streams, and flooded sections of track - it'd be a misnomer to call those parts "big puddles". Fortunately not terribly deep, because you couldn't see through the muddy water at all. Just plunge in, stay balanced and be prepared to ride out any hidden hazards.

After a break we manage a third lap skipping the A sections. Was hoping to get a quick lap in before the track closed at 3pm but we missed by 1 minute!! Arse.
    Cheers,
    Colin
