To fill in afew of the gaps. My first (of many) off was around that very slippery corner below the caretakers. The road in was pretty slippery on the knobblies.

The young fella had just ridden up the road to the caretakers ahead of us& somehow jumped off his bike before it went off the side. His old man was giving him a hard time cos he had just bought him a new rear tyre. The kid was smiling thru it all so had the right attitude.

The Maunga is really really smooth at the mo. The graders have been thru & none of the bogs & holes are there anymore.
The drop down to the creek at the other side is quite steep at the bottom (where I hesitated) the track up the other side is easy as- apart from the few round rocks at the base.

Part II atHori bay should be a blast -plenty of stupid things done.

The safari tank went really good. All I need to do is find some more manly looking petrol- pink is a bit DR riderish - no wait

The new tank really improved my fuel consumption -I only went thru about a 1/3 of a tank compared to the old tank.

How did you find the tank weight wise?

It makes it quite KLRish with the extra weight at the front. Doesn't deflect off rocks so much...

I did notice the front was very planted. As Nordie said it didn't deflect as much. I think some work could be done on the forks if one was that way compelled (I'm not)
I did notice going over the jumps that the front definitely didn't come up as high.

It was a bit harder to pick up than before.

The tank does turnit into more of an adv bike than a trailbike visually. I have to protect the inside of the tank from the pointy bits on the radiator

what a kool vid of the maungatapau..

    How times/things have changed..
Not been though there for 20 years..
Blen side looks unchanged... But the
    Nelson sides a motorway now...
wheres the 1.5m rock cliff.... & the 100m
up hill climb over 150 / 200mm rocks?.. think
I seen that area it was beside the stream..
there also was a small wooden bridge
half way up on the Nelson side..

Can yer still ride the Hira forest ?
there was some great areas in there...
nice narly rides down into the teal & lud velley areas.
Dip road was like 6 or 8 jumps one after another..
And up the quarry along the fence line..good high speed run..

And what about brook street ?... went in behined the soccer feild.
up into the tetragee, was a MX track in there ,then up to the top
then drop down into the maiti or go right though the native bush
come out on the top of the Richmond rangers ride passed
the fire look out and down into the Aniseed valley..

Are those rides still possable... or all closed off these days ?

And yer could ride the sand flats on the blen side of Nelson..
nothing to have 20 plus bikes there on a sat...there was a nice
super cross type track there... but the greenie thought we mite
run over a crab. So that got closed off just after I moved
    over here "Blenheim"

dam great vids keep em coming....

We used to do land yachting out there too. South Island Champs one year.
Speedway bikes got tested out there, car bonnets towed behind landcruisers, 90cc Yammy scooters with knobblies...

    Not anymore...

    Awesome again Nordie.

To fill inthe gaps for part II.

Someof those hills were fricking steep & someof those ruts fricking deep.

It was as much fun as it looked & a primo spot to do stupid things.

Nordie I guess we didn't catch a goat but you sure gave that young tree a good rogering

I used to have one of those - bloody good fun you felt the speed when your arse was 3 inches of the sand! Always told the wife safest sport out there - no problems, was all good till I saw some buggers doing 360s in them - went quite well up until the time I decided that double the speed would turn a 270 into a 360, didn't see the rut and well you can imagine the rest - 2 days until we flew to London with our 2 pre schoolers and 1 baby and I end up with a broken collar bone wife wasn't too happy - no sympathy WTF?
................... mind you I have put my back out playing golf as well .............. had to crawl home............ so reckon that is the reason the wife finally said bugger all this namby pamby slowly kill yourself shite - yes you can buy that bike
