Usual route over Rosedale, Jacobs, Dovedale, then beer @ Wakefield followed by a bit of an explore around Ben Nevis.
Did northern Old coach in the dark after leaving Topo.
Just didn't want to stop riding, but I was getting a bit hungry by that stage

    Public health warning!

I went over the Mangatapu on my DRZ today, to check it out after the big flooding on Monday....
Well, nearly endoed the bike dropping into the creek at the start, it's been quite gutted out, so I stopped and chucked a few rocks into the hole I fell into, so others won't meet my (almost) fate.
Gonzo's rock is well and truly exposed as the beasty it is, a sure wheel dinger now. Avoid left hand side at all costs.

Yep, there's still some big (bigger!) holes in the usual places, the rock garden climb is very rocky, and up near the top, there's some massive guts in the track, where water has chanelled down and just ripped it all out. A 4WD up there wasn't even keen to cross them, so watch out.
Overall, it's bloody bony and would warn anyone crossing it over next couple of months to take care....no cellphone cover if you bust yourself or bike up.
But I still had fun on the DogRoota!!

Just got back from up there myself.
I finally did the last pylon track I hadn't attempted.

Far more rutted out than last week (not as bad as it used to be though - you could lose a wheel in the ruts as opposed to a whole bike) and some slips and trees down but quite good coming back over from the far side in the dark.
It would have been even more fun if my highbeam was working...
Or my dip for that matter

Good test of my little 55w floodie though

Was doing the Neduro dance - tipping the bike to the inside and weighting the outside peg even more than I normally would.

I may cruise over to Motupipi tomorrow or Sunday to the Top of the South Motocross Champs.

Hmmm this could be interesting. Going over maunga today to winery thing in Blenheim. Last time I went over there there were some big whole in the mud after the water had dried out. Gonzo may have to jump a few

Going to a kwaka dirt bike training day on Sunday overthere so will let you know what it was like.

Just finished it. It is in technique clinic thread.

Went over the Maungatapu on Sat morning & there is a fair bit of damage from the rains. The first creek with the gonzo biting rock is pretty sweet now as the caretaker must have graded it back. Going up is ok until the top rock garden by the top bridge crazyfrog mentioned - it's bonier than a bony thing on halloween eve.

Further up the ruts open up & cross the track where we'd usually ride through so caution is needed.

The worse part I found was going down the pelorus side as the ruts run very deep & diagonally across the track leaving a narrow route to follow.

I came around a corner saw them & tried to slow down, however ended somehow accelerating, and in a moment (similar to a scene out of an Indiana Jones type movie where the rider on a donkey panics but the donkey just carries on regardless of it's rider's screams) I was safely parked with the cold sweats shaking my head looking back at what I'd come across.

OK its not really that bad just some commitment needed going up & caution going down.

    I love riding aroun Nelson

Could have done with an expert of your calibre on sunday.....

Got bored, so went to check out access between Rocky river and Big Pokororo for possible inclusion in the "Tasman dust buster" TMNordieBoy
Fire Breaking on the DR is not such a flash idea by ones self

Nah, Katie can handle the jandal, but the Dog Roota is soooo much lighter to chuck around.
I can't see a problem with Big adv bikes doing the Mangatapu at the mo', just take it a bit easier than ya would on a chook chaser, for the sake of bike and limbs. Go on, you know you want to do it......
