As for screens for the DRZ I find the headlite does a really good job of directing air away & am going to screw a piece of plastic maybe 50-75mm to the top of the headlite shroud to direct the air higher.

Real excuse is we didn't even get outside the urban limits of Chch. Work and all that.

    You mean the track?

If I feel better tomm I may head into the forest for a quick look. We should get a Nads ride together sometime.

If I feel better , I'm going into Hira.
Got a DR650 spring on the TT to see what happens.

    Also...

The rescue helicopter was buzzing around beside the Centre of NZ...

Looks more like a recovery than a rescue though...

There is a guy in the paper that's been missing for a week.

    Hope it's just an exercise.

Hira and the Mangatapu are in great nick at the moment, spent 3 hrs yesterday burning fossil fuel and destroying rubber. Dirt damp enough for great traction, but not too damp to make it slippery.
Hira seems rockier than usual though, looks like a logging dozer has been tearing up the ground in some parts.

Yea, just got back from Hira and Maungatap, tried pushing my limits on some hills with the smooth tyre but turned back BEFORE yes BEFORE getting in the shit. Didn't know you could get to the caretakers hut from the back of Hira without going on the maitai road, its good to know. The gate at the caretakers hut was a jar so that was good. Maungatap was very good, not too smooth, just right really. Would have had a free run over the Whangas to if it wasn't for a couple of motorbikes riding slow and not pulling over like cars/trucks etc do. Bloody motorcyclists . Na no stress the road was a bit wet in places. Got home and taught my young neighbour how to change the tyre on his WR, well ok I did it and he watched.

    Great afternoon.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

I managed to get out this avo for a short one. I went up Kaka hill & stupidly went down the western side. I have looked at it before & thought about it but seeing there was tyre tracks I followed them. It was a bit slippery with big schisty type rocks but not too bad.
I actually dismounted & walked down a chute- something I can't remember doing for a long time. Wiseness took over when I realised it was pretty steep from there on down & I was alone, half crook & buggered before I started so turned back.
Riding back up the skidder track I lost traction & fell off. There were some fricking big sharp rocks pushed to the side of the track & the bike landed on the tank. If anything was gonna puncture it then it would be these barstards.

Bike seemed alright so I remounted & bounced back up. This is the part that would have had you laughing. My glasses had fogged up picking up my bike so I flipped the front of the helmet up & thought I would ride up with it open to give me better vision. As the front wheel richocheted off the first big slippery rock the lid came falling back down. It didn't close properly however & sat there with the chin guard right in my line of vision.
I could see a teaspoon amount of the track out of a 6mm slit but I was in motion & there was no way I was going to stop & try to restart again.

Well I rode for about 20m zigzaging up that bloody track hitting everything in my way until I pulled up at a semi level section. I raised my lid again, took some deep slow breaths, shook my head at my stupidity & took off again with my lid raised

Anyway long story longer, I somehow mangled my speedo drive (pics in Schmidt thread) & I quietly made my way home after dropping the bike a few more times...
