I'm keen but don't know if I can make 1pm, if at all. Will txt (Woodman/topo) by 1pm to let you know either way.

I don't know the area very well, only been in there the once. Definitely up for more.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Went for a cruise over the Bay today. Went up the Cobb until I hit more snow than I felt comfortable tackling today by myself. It was beautiful country thru there - maybe a side excursion for the TOS ride.

Called in & saw some friends for many coffees & cruised on back. The hill was a bit wet & gritty so took it easy. My gloves must be bloody good as I didn't even notice my hot grips not working unitil I got back to Richmond. Thought I could smell burning somewhere -oh well tank off tomm again....

good wee blast it was too, and the hill wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Thanks for the go on the ktm topo, it really is in a different league to the KLR, everything is so bloody responsive and the extra grunt is nice too, oh and it handles. Could get meself into a whole new world of trouble on one of those.

Me and Nordie went up ben nevis and we swapped bikes as well. The dr is pretty responsive too, and feels like a wee bike compared to the klr, I need to ride a non farkled dr to see what they are actually like, but am still happy with the trusty klr.

Things that require instant attention when compared to the 2 bikes today are:

1 Throttle response (will do the 22cent mod this week)
2 Front brake (KTM nearly threw me over the handlebars)

Topo, your bike was better for me than the 640A mainly because of your skinnier tank and once you're stnding your screen isn't intrusive at all. I think Warewolf's engine has the nod over yours though but that may have been the gearing and not riding on anything I wanted to open it out on at all.

Woodies armchair with wheels was fun too. You can see why he rides the way he does. Sit down on that nice comfy seat and point it in the direction you want to go and wind it on. The front is so relaxed you're never going to get into trouble. Unless you need brakes in a hurry The KLR IMS tank has the same feel to it as the KTM640A tank when you try and lean forward. The front suspension was fine for individual bumps/rocks but got a bit overwhelmed by anything more.

    That was fun

Snuck off to the private, closed,OSH approved test track on the way home. I'm a little disapointed with the 640e's top speed, according to JATZ's GPS it maxed out at 157km/hr still not hitting the limiter in 5th. I think it needs some dyno time to get sorted as i'm sure it should pull more than that.

Another reason I've removed one front disk.

Would've thought topo's had more bottom end??

So what gearing are you running, including rear tyre size? What mods, and is yours the high flow head or not?

The power drops off between 8000rpm and the 8500rpm redline so you should aim to NOT hit redline in top gear - if you do it means the gearing is too short. Dunno where the limiter is.

Get some more speed by removing your helmet peak (or better yet, use a full face road helmet); and by removing your front guard or changing it to a supermoto shortie.
    Cheers,
    Colin
