Cheers Nordie. I will maybe cach up with ya in the weekend.

I'm thinking of making a quick change setup to keep gonzo roadleagal while I take off it's nosecone for blatting around the forest. jason mentioned you used to be able to get a unit with headlite & indis attached that just strapped to the forks so may look at getting one if they're still around & not expensive. otherwise I'll get into the lab.

Went out for a very cool blat to Hori bay again it was magnificent. When Daylite savings comes we should have an evening rideout there. I went for an explore thru the dozer tracks & seems to go for a good distance.

I'm loving these sunny days, well apart from today that is

    Kinda Nelson.... my Sunday ride

A report from the West -

The weather forecast was crap - multiple fronts on the way, limpid dark sky and Jim on TV promising the worst. I don't know if it happens in the rest of NZ, our forecasts are often wildly out and the Coast's reputation means people always believe the worst, even I sometimes get sucked in. This morning it was a pleasant surprise to find just light grey skies, and that I'd moaned just enough about the forecast and my probable ruined day that Ruth encouraged me to go and ride.

I was ready in minutes, heading up the Buller Gorge on dry roads to my first stop at Maruia Falls. From there it was a bit over 20k to the Maruia Saddle Road turnoff.

Plodded through the Saddle track with a few photo stops and had a great blast down the Matakitaki Valley where even a little sun broke through thin cloud. A quick coffee then back via seal and campervans (oddly rare in the gorge today), safely home before the rain finally arrived about 1pm.

A good shakedown trial for my new 60CSX GPS (loaded with CooneyR's track file) and general blow out of cobwebs! We sure live among some great riding country. By the way, a Q for the locals: What's the Glenhope - Tadmoor road like? I've been intrigued by that 'Dry Weather Road only' sign for years - is it fun on a bike? Some pix for ya:

The dryweather road is generally easy and is just a windy gravel road that is good fun. It can get a bit muddy and a little rutty after a bit of rain. Mind you i went through last winter when the snow was real bad and it was the most scared i have ever been on a motorbike. couldn't even stand up on the road without slipping over. Oddly never actually fell off that day. If you ever ride to Nelson go through the dry weather road then sunday creek and the dovedale hill into wakefield. Way better than all the seal.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

    Just good gravel roads actually.

Labour Weekend - Sun 25th October. More info than you'll ever need here

Bed available here if you ever need one - so you can ride the Lower Buller (or the Mackley... ) and the Coast Road to Grey.

Great pics snodpete. That Matukituki rd is one of the best in NZ. Good to see the strom still looking pretty.

I've also got a 60csx & they're a great machine - especially in forests wandering around exploring dead end roads

Went via Sunday Creek and the Dove Hill back to Nelson yesterday in all the rain/wind/fog. Nice ride and once I'd removed the mirrors I got under the tree blocking Sunday Creek.

    Maungatapu today

Tested out the stock DR seat.

How can people ride with them?

I've got my pegs lowered and my knees are still around my ears...

Easier to move around on the bike though and it only weighs 1/3rd of my modded Corbin.

Only got as far as Padmei's bog and there was an obstacle there...

    Saturday Ride...

I'm going to head up Sharlands and see how far I can get around the senior x-country loop.

I'm going to be riding a worn rear and good front E-07.
Should be ably to do most of it no problems.

    Any takers?
