I've had it trying to be nice to people - all people out there really. Road cyclists have a rep of being stuck up & yep pretty true (used to race roadies with Wheelers). Mountainbikers have a deluded sense of laidback coolness & comaradery. After riding past & with so many riders & not even getting a nod or acknowledgement when greeting them with a G'day or smile I just put on my race face & become as disaffected as they are. Sad really...
Anyway a couple of friends were doing that race over the maunga. It was part of the Kiwi Brevet. 1200kms over a minimum of 4 days with a minimum of 4hrs sleep each nite. It ran Blenheim to Blenheim via Port Undewear, Queen charl. , Munga, lake Rotoiti, Reefton, Big River area, moana, Hawarden way, Molesworth back to Blenheim. They all carried SPOTs so following the event was quite easy.
The reason he didn't stop (well aprt from being an arrogant arsehole) was he would have been shitting himself coming down on his cyclocross bike with cantilever brakes
I'm back from Westport after the Buller half & glad to be home. Westport may have some amazing riding but jeez it really is a depressing shithole. man I love Nelson.
Any one want to do a trip out to Hori bay one evening? - They're starting to get shorter
