Back from an awesome ride in Hira forest up to Boiler Gully & Duck pond Rd, top of the Whangas & return. Somereally good riding in there.
The conditions were great, good traction, no dust, a little bit slippery in places & only a handful of other people out there. The sun even came out as I rode home.
Watched a couple of young fellas on KX85 or sim trying to get up Hurricane Hill. Hard case slipping all over the place. Neither of them got up there but they could turn their bikes around & come down very quickly.
If anyone's else is keen on a gravel bash next Sunday morning I would like to go back & plot some more roads on the GPS. I've got shit tyres on at the mo so may split into the hard & soft core if there are a few coming. Really good fun.
The only prob may be if Sharlands rd gate is locked like it was last time. Can you get in from the caretakers house or is that locked? Or could get thru from top of Whangas.
Anyway sing out if you're keen.
yep keen as. ............................
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Now you've done it - Team Heavy metal!! - everyone else will be too intimidated to stick their hand up
I'm knackered.
Not as physical as the Tadmor XC but mud. Lots of mud. Where it wasn't mud it was slippery wet muddy grass.
On my 1st lap I basically had to push up every hill. There was no way I was getting up some of them whilst sitting on the bike.
Laps 2 and 3 and they'd removed all the big hills from the course
Got cleaned out by a guy on a muddy bitwho was most apologetic in the pits after.
I was going down hills that even 1 year ago I would have shat myself on.
I was going down them with the engine off and using the front brake and clutch for slowing down type stuff.
Well after washing the bike yesterday (drying it twice after the wee lad squirted it with the hose once I was done) I went out and got it dirty again this arvo. Popped over to the Pig Valley cross country for a look. First thing I see is topo with his bike on the trailer!! Damn! Head gasket again.
It looked wet and slushy. Nordie turned up eventually, looked like Ye Olde XR was struggling a bit.
Since it was raining we buggered off. I went for a pootle up the Wairoa Gorge Rd (fcuk was the river a raging torrent), ending up at the Ben Nevis car park. Was a bit slippery on the last steep clay bits up through the trees, but not too tragic. Next time will have to do the Ben Nevis Rd / Boundary Rd loop.
Had to stop exploring little side tracks - would've been a long walk out by myself. We gotta get back in there for an explore soon.
Cheers,
Colin

Would be good to have a some pointers if it suits?
Did you want to come round here? How's Thursday night, from 7:30pm?
Was thinking we need to have another shed night soon!
