You work in a blue uniform, so to speak, but obviously you're off duty and having a few, kicking back, talking bikes etc. Like I say, nobody knows....

You wander over to a shed/a bar/a table whatever and get invited to join in some 'fun' with people you've been in touch with online but never met.......

    Would you;
    Decline and walk away or
Decline and bust their arses for......
    1) Smoking a joint
    2) Smoking some P
    3) Snorting some coke
    4) Popping some acid
    5) Popping some E's
    6) Shooting some smack
    7) Popping (now illegal) party pills

In other words; which of the above would prompt an 'official' action, if any?

Also, if that action were to be taken would it be taken on the night (right there and then) or would you leave it until the next day/week whatever, bearing in mind that if you DO bust someone they're likely to be off their tits in no time flat. (Plus, with no cell phone coverage you're most likely on your own.)

I'd also welcome thoughts from those who are not in the Police Force as to which of the above might/should be reason to get busted at such an event and why.

(The perps are not selling or forcing, merely offering.)

I'm just curious to see what drug it would take to cross the blue line out in the sticks.
So the KB new years party is at your place this year then?

Why would it matter that the fella was an off-duty police officer?

Should any other upstanding citizen be more or less inclined to report such terrible, terrible crimes

What would it take for YOU to turn in the druggies?

Personally my opinion is that how other people choose to live their lives and get their kicks doesn't bother me - as long as their behaviour is not a direct cause of grief for others.

Now, if it was someone selling drugs - then maybe...

If it was somebody spiking another persons drink - definitely.

Cops are just like all other people - hey some cops are career criminals FFS.
Also, while I'm happy to discuss what I work with while "off-duty", I certainly wouldn't be wanting to actually do any work in my spare time - I'm confident most police officers would feel the same way.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

    Whatever you say champ.

The thread itself was based on the taking of drugs in front of a police officer (not deliberately) and their reactions, why does that need to be pointed out to you? Did you miss that small point that made up the entire first post and nearly the entire thread?

My point, was that its up to the cop to find a social environment they can deal with, rather then impose themselves to a situation where they are compelled to act.

In other words move on cop, Its your problem, Not ours. the actions of a social group shouldn't have to change to suit someone recently introduced, and in that situation you can't trust a cop for 1 second, Off duty or not.

I live my life My Way, and I couldn't give a shit how thick you are or how many words you want to use to call someone a wanker.

I think it would depend on each copper, but most would not want a relaxed cruisy night turn into a head fuck for them.
P would probably be the one drug that would have them keeping a sharp eye on. Hopefully more for the safety of bystanders, than the actual crime at the moment. (crazy situations develop out of that shit).
Pot, Whizz, Smack etc arn't likely to escalate into violent situations.
A good copper would gauge the situation, and know when it was time to seek assistance if required.

Shit you know that sorta stuff. Man I bet you could tell some yarns On a dark and stormy night................

    A dragon lives forever
But not so little girls and boys
    Painted wings and giants' rings
    Make way for other toys

    One grey night it happened
    Jackie Paper came no more
    And Puff that mighty dragon
    He ceased his fearless roar

His head was bent in sorrow
    Green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play
    Along the cherry lane

    Without his life-long friend
    Puff could not be brave
    So Puff that mighty dragon
    Sadly slipped into his cave

Smoking a joint or popping party pills? Meh. Fine.

    Anything else and I'd either:

    1. if it were my friends doing it, then rip the shit off them and flush it, or;
    2. if they weren't particular friends, I'd call the cops in myself then and there. Or at least take names for when there was cellphone coverage.

And no (and this may come as a shock to many of you) I'm not a cop.

Correct, knowing a few cops, there are good reasons why they generally either a, stick to their own, or b, with close friends.

No-one likes to be "on the job" 24/7, and when off-duty, they just want to be normal people (like anyone else).

To give a rough idea, when you say you are in IT, invariably, someone says, "Hey, I have this problem...". Well, the cop equivalent is (having seen a stranger find out a friend is a cop) "Do you surf porn at work" and it only got worse from there, to the point we were just about staring at him.

Often, they will evade the question of what they do, something like government employee or what not, as the whole mood changes when people find out there is a cop in their midst.

Obviously, there is the caveat of severity, but everybody wants down time too. That said, its very hard to avoid the cop discussions, as they usually have some hilarious stories/obvious stupidity etc.
