A couple of stupid questions....

Just a couple of quick questions from novice...

When parking in carparks etc (during the day) how do you secure your bike? Just use the built in steering lock, or use other security devices aswell?

And what do you do with your helmet? Chain it to your bike, or take it with you?

And finally, if you are at your house for example, and are going to pick up a mate on the way to somewhere else, and you have your helmet, and a spare for your mate at your house, how do you carry that spare helmet untill you pick up your mate?

3. preferably mate has his own helmet, if not , there are helmet carrybags from any bike shop that go over your sholder and do exelent job. cost 10$ from the top of my head

Usually built in steering lock will suffice, but disc locks are an added anti-theft device. Easy to carry. Don't get too paranoid...untill you're out on the road. THEN EVERY CAGE IS OUT TO GET YOU...
Carry it with you...non biker chicks love bikers...gotta have all the artwork on 'em though...
A pack rack bag...big enough to hold A helmet(and a 24 pack that your mate gives you for taking him on your bike...)

It's just a small padlock that goes through a hole in your front brake disc, making the bike un-rideable unless you don't care about having front brakes. It's a good way of just making people think twice about stealing your bike.

You can bike helmet strap thinks which are like stretchy bungy nets that allow you to tie down a spare helmet on your pillion seat securely.

How long have you been riding? Lol may not be a great idea to pillion if you're on your learners and wanting to pillion around drury at 100kph on a 250

Technically been riding since yesterday...lol. Used to pillion my old boss around on my Ag100 when i was dairy farming though and he was much bigger and heavier than me, and he sat on the rack lol, luckily most of my chick friends are skinny and lighter than me....

Dude ... welcome to wonderful world of bikes : ) .. yes ... girls love a good bike, it the "dangerous" thing .. LOL ... but don't get me started .. i',m old ... and bitter ... ha ha ..

as for the the fundamentals ... buy a disk lock ... do it! it's not going to stop them loading your bike into a van, but it will stop some areshole trying it on.

Oxford do a great line of disk locks http://www.oxford-shop.co.uk/cat218_1.htm, you can find them in any good bike shop. i use one myself

as for the helmet, I carry my spare in a backpack, i'm not a big fan of packracks, i think they turn the bike into a pack horse, if i'm going out of town i'll use panniers, bit if you have a helmet bag, that's fine, just make sure it doesn't swing forward .. that will really screw with your day.

and dude ... a ride up the street and back is not a ride ... LOL ..if you're so damn swamped with women asking for a ride and all you're offering is a ride up the street and back ... dear god! .. do i really need to continue ... mate i'll pm you my number .. I second this works fine for me!! As long as your not going crazy in the twisties while carrying the helmet its fine lol! It is also the only way I have done it so far.

I third this... as long as you arent going to far. Other wise it becomes really annoying.

As for locking my bike. I just used the steering lock. If someone really wants your bike.. they will take it regardless of how you lock it up

Not to be the killjoy but is pillioning someone while 'technically' on your learners really a good idea? Is it worth the $400 ticket if you do get pulled or the unimagineable fallout should you crash and kill or injure your pillion? The consequences would far outway the motive I would think... no matter how experienced you are, it is and always will be the other idiots on the road (that you cant predict the actions of) who cause the majority of accidents.

I had plenty of people wanting a ride on my 'new' bike when I first started out - including my pregnant partner - but all had to wait for both their sake and my own. The choice is yours but the risk is huge.
