perhaps an idea for those better at web programming than me, why not set up a price comparison site for motorbike parts? get results from www store that ship direct to nz, nz stores that want to add their prices can get more business that way, and nz internet shops can get in on the action as well. and it'd be bloody easy to implement targeted advertising based on parts searched for so I would Imagine that would pay for the server costs many times over.

$237 for a brake lever with 2 weeks wait from a local dealer.
$100 incl. shipping from US, arrived in less than 7 days.
if an individual can import something for $100 in 7 days. why can't the dealer just do exactly the same thing? Import it the same way and charge $150 or even $180. they're still making their markup - but it's quicker and cheaper than thier current method of sourcing stock - what ever that is....

Probably because they keep blowing up, and demand for parts exceeds supply.

A lot of franchised dealers would get into serious $hit if they're caught buying certain lines from other channels. Their hands are effectively tied.
