Phone these guys, John Brooks Ltd 04 568 6196, unit 10 495 Hutt Rd Petone.
or you could try Maud kirks Machinery Ltd, www.maudkirk.co.nz
They are both Indutrial transmission companies. often Motorcycle chan and industrial chain is the same stuff, you just need to know all the relivant dimensions to what you want.

Why try and "support" kiwi business if you are forking over even one cent extra! The money i would save to buy something and import it is extra money to spend on my own son. And to me he is WAYYYY more important than the new zealand economy

LOL NZ bike parts dealers lol, What a joke!

New complete Jardine 4 - 1 exhaust from US manufacturer, = $450 including AIR freight. 10 working day delivered!
New Coils, NA in NZ, $65+ each imported from Japan 6 weeks,
New Coils, Mikes XS England $35 each 10 days.
New clutch plates, Ex Japan, local Yamaha dealer, $400 plus Gst, 6 weeks!
New Competition Clutch Pack with springs, ex US 10 days, $64.
New Switch blocks l/r sides, Obsolete in NZ , US $23 each
Second Hand workshop manual, Tard Me, NZ $60!
Brand new workshop manual, still in celophane wrapper, ex US $22,
Full engine gasket set, NZ yammy dealer, $400 headgasket alone!!
Complete Gasket Kit ex GERMANY! $74!!! delivered in 14 days!
I could go on , but you get the Idea,

I priced all the parts I wanted for my rebuild, and budgeted for $4000, in parts. I have almost all the parts now I need from overseas dealers, mainly Via Ebay and PayPal, for just under $2300!

Why are there no parts in local bike spares departments? Because they cannot afford to compete with what you can get directly from overseas markets.
Is it safe? Is it relyable? Yeap, and most places have a right of refund less the shipping costs if you purchase the wrong part.

Which choice is the wise one? Buy NZ.......Access the WWW. market?
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.

I get most of my parts from overseas.

I have bought from this shop for many years; http://www.shopbombaymotorsports.com/index.htm. One of the best, most reliable, knowledgeable anywhere.

I saved $40 NZ on buying my last helmet visor. They were about $100NZ here and even with two day shipping from the US it was only $60NZ.

I almost never buy anything mechanical from a retail outlet now unless its from an associate who gives me a good price. The wholesalers on my list are more than happy to seel to me directly and i get really good pricing thats well below retail. All it takes is a bit of reasearch to find out what industry actually deals with the type of products we all need to fix bikes etc.

    EG;
Iridium NGK spark plugs , i get for approx $14.00
RRP is well over $ 25.00 each.
520SMO or similar chain for about $60.00 from a power transmission wholesaler.

Just research and dont mentally go straight to a retail outlet just because its there.

    Good luck Paul.

    Yep thats my story too....

    Clutch Part for a GasGas - 4 months !!!
Part for an Arai helmet (air vent) - 9 (yes Nine !!) months and when it arrived it was the wrong part.
Air filter for a VFR750 - well who knows.... it hasn't arrived yet. ($137 for an Airfilter !!!)
Speedo cable for a VFR750 - not arrived either...

I can understand why NZ does not hold huge stocks of parts. BUT.... I don't know why every retailer ignores the demand for parts to be delivered quickly and cheaply from available sources.

I've learned my lesson .... I will buy all my parts from the web in future. All parts retailers here are pathetic.

I used to order electronic parts from a big wholesaler in Australia (Farnell).

I could phone through a parts order up to 6pm NZ time and have it delivered from Sydney to my Auckland office the following morning. For a total delivery fee of $10 for the first 10kg!

It would cost me more to ship a part up from Wellington.

Well I finally got my links with 1/2 a day to spare.
Asked my local to ring the supplier and ask if they could take 2 out of some new chain boxes as they come with the rivet link..........result=2 new rivet links arrived overnite.
A bit of thinking outside the box acheived the right result.......I will take all the credit though

    Hi,

New here but for a little country that hardly even makes a dent in the accessory markets worldwide the shops here do ok. Sure some stuff runs out at the wholesalers but hey if it isnt available at the time of order what do you do? hold a container or a whole order up for couple of items, Prices sure you can get it from the US as alot of people do but remember they have a far larger customer base than we have here and buy in bigger volumes than even our wholesalers do they also work on a lot less margin than us but also pay less and have cheaper living costs. How much do you earn an hour, imagine paying shit wages for your staff, then what help would you get at the local shop.Having just been at Chapperall in LA most things were pretty cost competative considering current and ever increasing freight cost to what we have here excluding the crap products that are around. Most retailers do there best for there customers and if you are a great customer you will find most will go beyond the extra mile to help you out, I know we did. The dollar dropping will of course tidy things up as most people will consider the lower dollar when purchasing ex US now.

    Bugger about PTMC

    Retailers a joke??
    WTF are you people on!?
Man this shit pisses me off!

Look, Theres been at least 3 people (from the industry you people are constantly bagging) offering to help in this one thread. Even after all this talk. We still offer help. Even if it is just a chain link.
    Why do we bother?

(this is not a dig at you Tonyok)

No probs mate, I'd hate to be in a retailers shoes, you guys can only rely on the importers helping you out, when they let you down you bare the brunt.

Thanks to all who offered help, chain is sorted and the world is all rosey again
