Awesome vid, looks sweet.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here. QWQ
Seconded.
Now that I'm home and can access YouTube, I gotta say, thank you for sharing, Paul - that was lovely to watch. Respect, as always.
You think Paul's riding was dangerous... well, like he implies, just hopping on a bike in the morning to go to work is far more danger than many folk would be willing to deal with.
I won't go into this at any length. It's not worth bothering over much further, IMHO. I'm sure peeps have duly noted your points about what you consider safe and unsafe riding, you've made them clearly, let's not let it degenerate into nastiness, eh?
You know what I think? I think you should totally head out for a ride on Betty next time I'm down. Couple of hours around your favourite central NI roads. Catch the GSX1400 bug at your own pace.
Keen?

Anyway back to the video, can't be arsed funelling through the bad points..
Beyond, when you look through a blind corner, where is your head looking at? I have video of me doing the exact same road (albeit wet, mossy and at dusk) going 1/20th of the speed because I just can't judge blind corners due to being afraid of a car coming around across the white line and always changing where I'm looking. I don't think I'm a bad rider, I just haven't 'perfected' my cornering... but seeing you take the same roads far faster than me, it makes me think maybe I need to rethink my structure in looking into a corner..
Cheers.
PS. sorry for a valid question, here's some insults to keep the thread ontopic
Donor is a cunt! Wait, he's not even in this thread, damnit!
Nice to see us on your vid Paul (2 Blackbirds and a Busa). First time for us on this road and we were poodling along watching out for the green bits on the road when this loud GSX with an effing loud can comes flying past on a corner and none of us saw you coming! Looked bloody impressive from the back!
We did wave when you were parked up at the Kaiaua toilets, but might yet get to meet you face to face!
Cheers,
Geoff
Nice video. That road is always a great ride! I also know it very well!
Not judging as I am not perfect, I saw 2 bad calls in that video. One was overtaking those 3 bikers coming up that corner. There is a short straight after you could of got them on. Second overtaking that car on the 35kmph corner coming down to Kawakawa bay. Its kinda blind. But i do love that corner!
Exactly. And what if the bike he passed going through the slip decided to move into the other wheel track at the last moment...???
Yeah yeah, we know beyond thinks he is real good and all that... but what is his chances of riding like that every day for the next five years without his luck running out?
Problem for me is beyond knows what can happen...

I am quite sure it is not the full story, I watched the whole video, and have to say there were times on there that even allowing for the fact I was not there, the riding was outside of the law and "dangerous" as in...posting 220 as a "random number" on the clip and then coming up behind a car at speed complaining there was no indication...Luck more than good management kept beyond safe on that trip!
Best you add me then mate, cos that demonstration was nothing to boast about at all!
I am not chucking rocks at you, far from it mate! I just hope that some of our more impressionable members do not hold your posted video as a benchmark and attempt to be a man like you.![]()
I'm liking this thread. Some good points and it shows how people can get impressions of photos and vids that aren't always correct.
Wasn't going to but I'll cover some issues here:
"Not judging as I am not perfect, I saw 2 bad calls in that video. One was overtaking those 3 bikers coming up that corner. There is a short straight after you could of got them on. Overtaking the 3 bikers was not an issue. I wasn't riding at 100% and could have braked while leaving room for any of them. I saw they were keeping well left and it's extremely rare for riders on a left hander to swing wide at the speed they were going so there was always going to be room for two in the left lane "if" a car came out of nowhere. I crossed the centre line momentarily becuase I could but would not have needed to if the worst happened.
Coming into Kawa on the tight left hander. I always look down the hill over the gully to the other side and see if anything is coming. You can overtake really safely here down and up hill once you've checked the road BUT the car on the left I was overtaking actually sped up and tried to muscle me off the road. You can't see that on the vid as it looks ahead. Again, I knew nothing was coming and were safe in the other lane and were checking ahead the whole time just in case.
If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.
