Riding by myself.. not so much fun.

hey, im from hamilton.. been restricted to the 250 because im only on my learners..

anyways long story short, the only people i know with bikes have 1000s etc and tho they said they would wait for me i still feel silly.

does anyone do rides or want to ride with a 250?? seems hard to find people to ride with..

only thing ive been told by my doc i cant ride for about 3 weeks, tendonitis in my right hand.. GUTS!!

but as soon as im good to go ill be going!

You're a lot safer by yourself.

I wouldn't worry about it, whenever "we" go for a ride someones going fast, someones going slow, half of them are lost and there's always something that falls off, breaks or runs out of fuel. As long as you know where your going to meet up just enjoy riding your own ride and telling lies at the end.

    Simple really.

    What Crisis Management said.

Whatever you do, don't try and keep up with those on 600's and thou's. They will wait for you. I know it's frustrating - my flatmates both have 600's and thou's and whenever the 3 of us go riding I usually get left behind on my 250, but they do wait for me and I'm learning to be ok with that.

If you try and keep up and ride outside your limits you put yourself in danger.

Riding by yourself is fun but if you do need to ride with others there are loads of 250 riders, such as myself up in Auckland. I know it's a bit of a hike from where you are but a lot of Auckland 250 riders travel all over the upper North Island over weekends - I, for example quite regularly shoot down to Tauranga and back for the weekend.

Keep an eye on the rides and planned events forum on here - you're bound to find something you can get involved with involving other 250 riders.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Riding alone DOES suck! But its something that you should get used to/ or organise a better ride.

When I had the Yamaha Scorpio I remember going on a BIG ride (20-30 people ride). Eventho most riders had 250s but no matter what, I (or my bike) was the slowest. That frustrated me for a time... Other 250s, they may be 250s but they were all inline fours or V twins! During that ride I, out of 30 people, rode by myself from Whangarei to Auckland... Well they waited for me at a gas stop but they left when I arrived....true.

Like Darklord said, riding alone is safe but on the other hand, it can be lonely... really lonely...

    What everyone else said.....

I think every learner goes through this phase; it is a testing time as the temptation to ride beyond your limits to keep up is huge! And if you fall into that temptation the consequences can be disastrous!

Don’t feel silly, people do wait, and if they don’t who gives a toss. People I ride with have been riding for years and are farken fast, but they always stop and have a smoke/chat/piss/wank/ or all of those, on the side of the road to wait for nana me.

Just enjoy having your arse on your bike doing your ride!

Don't let it stop you riding in groups. Riding in groups, I think, is a vital part in the learning process.

And when your all growed up, and get an adult size bike, just remember those learners, and what they are going through!

    my cents worth

3cc of virgin mouse blood, and a ripe kumquat and you'll never ride alone.

I found it easier riding on my own when I was learning (I think I can rememer back that far). Group riding has it's place, but as the others have said it's all too easy to get caught up concentrating on what others are doing rather than riding at your own pace.

Personally I still find it more fun to ride on my own. Of course that may be more of a reflction on my number of friends!

    Wink

Do a search on Hamilton threads because there were/are a few who went out riding in the summer months and I assume they will again once the weather and light pick up. 250's can do the speed limit so you shouldn't be far off the pace anyway. I know quite a few bikers head out to Parongia on Sundays for a coffee or two and thats always a good place to meet up with fellow riders have a chat and tag along.

    cheers and good biking

I prefer riding alone. I don't feel 'pressured' to keep up' or that I'm 'holding up the other riders'. There was an awesome thread here about why we crash.. I found it an excellent read http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...d.php?t=79309& One of the things I got out of that was point 3. Whatever you do, get out there and practice, practice, practice.

    For your hand issue.
Go look into a machine called a tenz machine (omron sells them)

Its got electrodes that you attach to your hands that "shocks" it.
keep it on a very small current ie you can just feel it
About 15 min a day and i promise in a week your hand will be fine!

If i still lived in Hamilton i'ld be more than happy to go for rides with you.
Dont start riding with the mormon few

I used to ride with guys who all had bigger bikes, And i can definetly say it gets lonely. But turns out they are going to ride socially now

Check out the Hamilton wednesday night ride thread
