True True...but thats mostly cause mopeds like to take 2 parking spots. Most mornings I have to move one of the little mofo's so i can fit into a spot. Feel the Rage...

Auckland's m/c parks seem underutilized at the moment (perhaps because it's winter). Anybody ever use the spot in Federal St? Space for lots of bikes but rarely more than one in it - often completely empty. Possibly the proximity of covered, secured (and for the time being free) bike parking in Aotea carpark explains it.
For free street parking I suspect it might be a case of use it or lose it - sooner or later the powers that be will notice the potential missed revenue...

if ur parking in Auckland, make sure u have theft insurance cover. The number of times that I've heard bikes go missing and the owner doesn't have insurance just scares me

Just for interest you may like to look at some of the responses from a similar previous Wellington thread.

When/If I ride my bike into town it stays in a secure park under the CCTV cameras and is disc locked. It's just a good habit, saves paranoia after my bikes been stolen.

    Here's a scary thought.

The other day I was parking my bike at the very end of a pay & display area, nice and perpendicular to the curb. As I was removing my helmet a Ticketeer stopped to look at the bike. He said I won't ticket such a nice bike mate, I sort of chuckled and said thanks but why would I get a ticket. Dumb question? No, as he responded that bikes are not exempt from meters or other parking restrictions. It's just up to the ticketeers to ignore them or not.

Is this true?, or just the begining of bike ticketing to get even more money from us.

And do not park in Aitken St by the National Library as some A$$^#%$ will DRIVE into it and send it flying into the gutter. Bike was parked on the side stand. mutter mutter efn a#@@^ #$^#@$ Still pissed about it. Walked out of work late 6:45 to find the damage. At least some person picked the bike up.

Photos of the damage if you are interested are here http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/teresa.angell/damage/

The vehicle is white and in good CSI fashion I have kept the paint fleck that they left on the engine mounting bolts.

bikerboy - Motorbikes are vehicles as well and can get ticketed for not paying and displaying. Nearly got done for just that but I moved a moped out of the way to fit into the bike park.

If parking in town (Ak), just park on the footpath!

Have done for years and no tickets. just make sure you don't obstruct said footpath. This was confirmed by ticketeer,  who said he didn't worry about bikes unless they were obviously obstructing the footpath   : niceone:

I had some nazi parking officer out at botany stick a HUGE sticker on my tank last year notifying me that my 'vehicle was illegally parked' and that it would be towed if it wasn't moved. I wasn't even CLOSE to obstructing the 2m wide footpath that is in a highly obscure position (zero foot traffic).

I guess some parking wardens think they're prison wardens. Sad little people. Most probably don't ticket bikes cause there's no where to put the ticket! (make sure you don't have a seat strap on)
