My feeling is that you should inform them that you would like to dispute this one in court. Gotta feel that they would rather drop the matter rather than front up in court to prosecute an amber light runner. When it changes to amber you are supposed to stop unless you can't safely do so - this makes it a bit of a judgement call. I can't help but think a judgement call decision was for you to make not the cop - as long as it really was as you told us and the lights had only just gone amber and you got through before they went red.

But if you can't be bothered fighting it in court (or at least telling them you are willing to fight it in court) then just pay the fine and accept it.
