Hanging up my boots - everything must go!

After a nasty accident a couple of months ago D/H mtbing I am VERY reluctantly selling up and officially getting the pipe and slippers out so the mrs. will let me get back in the bedroom again oh well 45 ain't too bad and the doc said if I break my hip again it could lead to all sorts of horrible long wordy doctor jargon things going on with my lower half...anyway the upshot is a 3 month old gas gas EC125 for sale

Sad to hear, all the best with your recovery!

Goggles? Gloves? Boots? Helmet maybe (providing it hasn't been stacked in)?

Got a mate getting into riding that could be keen, oh and I lost my goggles

A pox and a plague on doctors.

Don't you dare sell your bike ali-s. Just ride a bit more cautiously. Put the pipe and slippers on TradeMe instead, and sell them to a doctor.

You have plenty more good high activity years left in you. You'll probably just go 'downhill' faster if you give it up now. Look at the age of some of those Olympic athletes. Female marathon winner was 38. A 70 year old man has even climbed Mt Everest. Be inspired. Doctors are soft golf players (and sport is not about small balls). The nerves that wire up the night tools are deep and well protected enough.

My doctor is giving me similar 'advice.' The 45 yr old vintage piece of meat I inhabit has a bingled up spine. Latest MRI scan is not a pretty picture (had one surgery already) but doing my best to ignore it along with (insert violin track here) the pain from nerve damage etc.
I can't face the idea of not riding, having just got back into it again. I've gotten more out of life this past year than all the 10 years before. The prospect of taking up golf instead just doesn't spin my prop, and in fact makes me feel ill.

My prescription: Bitch slap your doctor, buy the wife some flowers and reconsider your decision. At least give it one more year and see how you go. You'll be fine as long as you're careful.

For what it's worth..... I gave bikes away at 36 because of a banged up body (actually...come to think of it so was my wife.....with twins.. ) and now at 51 I'm back into it and enjoying myself heaps. I'm in terrible shape with stuffed knees, shoulder, dickey plumbing and I'm sure bits keep falling off, my Dr tells me I'm insane but that the exercise is good for me if I don't fall off (still working on that bit..) Although I can't really ride as I would like, I still get a kick out of hanging out at tracks, taking pics and supporting my kids riding, I will move into more club stuff, helping at race days etc. I don't regret selling up years ago and I certainly don't regret getting back into it. Riding isn't the only way to enjoy bikes....... Clubs need "ex-riders" to survive.......
