Thumbs up Port Waikato day ride (Sun 19 Oct)

    SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER
    Calling all gravel bashers.
I am planning a day ride up the coast from Raglan to Port Waikato via the gravel roads recently used for RALLY NZ, with a lunch and gas stop at Tuakau.

The return trip will be around 320 kms long and i have managed to work out a route to cover different roads there and back.

I will be leaving from the Whatawhata service station at 10.00am ( weather permitting )and would be happy to have company to ride with.

I have posted the ride up on the calender, so if you are interested put your name down there.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

Buggar. Aussie invaders are arriving that weekend
Check out Nikau Caves cafe on Waikaretu Rd, great cafe with great views.
(if I can slip away for the day, I'll be there).

I need a warm up ride for the HBAR and i want a new front tyre for that ride.
But it is not bald enough yet, so i will have to remedy that by wearing it down a bit more. Its a CHORE i hate but someone has to do it.

Whatawhata is 10 minutes from Hamilton on the Raglan Rd

Only going in to Tuakau for petrol, and to ride Klondyke Rd.

Came over Klondike a couple of weeks back.
It appears to have been re-gravelled over much of its length recently, especially the western end. So going in from the Tuakau end means that all those downhill corners and hairpins are now through loose chunky gravel.
Not especially difficult - just not as much fun as it was last summer.

(I have a very vague recollection of someone else posting this info somewhere around here a month or two back)
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Only a short distance from my place if anyone becomes needful of a comfort stop.

The rally started just 1 km from the front door

    PM if needed

Me n Kanny shot up to Nikau Caves Cafe today on Waikaretu valley Rd, via Ruakiwi/ Te Akau coast rd, then home via Richardson/Dixon/Te Akau roads, Hwy22, and over Old Mtn road.
Bit of fresh gravel here n there but overall the roads are mint.
Make sure you call into the cafe if you get a chance. The coffee and fresh country food beats that Akld slop hands down.
