Yeah I saw a pig riding that bike in the sky when I took a small helicopter ride.

    Too late to be funny...

LTNZ only charge about ten bucks for ownership details including address and stuff, quite scary, all you have to supply is photo ID, doesn't even have to be drivers license or passport. NZ's systems suck.

You shouldn't be liable for rego or anything like that -- tell the insurance company they will be paying for everything. If they were too thick to dereg it then it's their fault. Nothing to do with you.

In fact, if I get this right (from my insurance thread), when a bike is written off, your insurance company is effectively buying it from you. Giving you money in exchange for the bike. You don't get to keep both of course. So it's up to them.

That was a cool bike. You want to rebuild it?

To deregister a bike, just go to an LTNZ or AA or VTNZ location and fill out an MR15 form. You can also get the MR15 from most Post Shops (but a Post Shop won't accept plates - which you're required to surrender).

The MR15 won't cost you anything to process and you'll get a refund for the remaining/unused portion of the registration.

yea that's what i was thinking, especially coz the insurance company gets you to sign a form that says you're signing over ownership as i have been paid for it....yea thinking of rebuild coz there wasnt a whole lot wrong with it...pity i missed the tender for it

Definitely get it de-registered. Otherwise you might get some problems if anyone attempts to reuse the original plates.

just send your insurance agent an email, be sure to include date, time, place of accident and the vehicle's particulars.

Don't state the real reason why you're sending them an email, make it an enquiry about the claim for some small reason.

When they reply you will have the 'paper trail' and required info to tell LTNZ to fuck off when they send a demand letter for a years worth of rego even tho the bike is in no condition to be road worthy.

ok so called ltnz, got registration put on hold and they sent me letter of payment. took that to insurance company, they are happy to pay. got another letter from ltnz asking for change of ownership to be completed. called up insurance company again, asked what was going on.

got told that bike was sold registered. they immediately called new owner to inform them of this and owner agreed to get ownership done today. tried to find out the new owner's details under the guise of "i would like to make sure that ownership is completed today because i dont want to pay for any fines etc" hit a brick wall that is the "Privacy Act"

so someone out there DEFINATELY has the bike so please lemme know if you see it!!!!
