    More stupid stuff

There was a thread listing things that newbies have forgotten. Left helmet /gloves off, stand down etc. How does this rate. I was talking to a mate at work and happened to mention that I have a bit of trouble flicking the indicator back, it would often go the other way. He said something like "don't you just push it in to cancel" bloody revelation, it works. It's taken me ages to find that out. Duh. I can't believe there's anyone else that's done that so I claim the prize.

    Not just newbies.

Stupid side stand down engine cut off switch if bike is in gear.

ie riding into garage flick down the stand while in motion (very cool dude) and engine cuts out. Quick panic clutch and legs down to stay upright. Phew lucky. All cool points lost, miss a turn.

I've also seen a guy kick start his bike (yeah a few years back) but it was in gear - bike moved forwards rolling off the sidestand.

As a side note watching someone kick start a big parallel twin and it fires up on the first kick is possibly the coolest thing in the motorcycle world - beats stoppies, wheelies, boobs on bikes.

Sorry strokers - blues don't count as there is no apparent effort.

I split my jeans right up the arse kicking over my old 750 twin once

    For three days. I remember.
Went right into Castleton Rd, went to flick the indicator right one click, quickly dodged a bra whilst turning, accidentally pressed the indicator IN and HOLY CRAP!!!
I've left my house without my riding boots. Wondered why my feet were so cold 10m down the road. They were sneakers, but still...

Ahaha, today as I was riding I noticed my left grip was a bit loose, and I could twist it around on the bar.
I wondered, Is the right grip also loose, and gave it a firm twist.
    VROOOM!
Holy fuck, almost popped a wheelie and crashed! Okay, forgot that the right grip is the throttle.

    Red face

Now that last one was REALLY funny. Just an aside, many years ago I had a car with auto gearbox and it had a starting handle ( I did say it was many years ago) you couldn't start in gear with the key but one day, when the battery was flat, and I was too skinny to get a new one, I started it with the crank handle..in gear... do you see where this is going. Didn't quite run myself over.

a really embarrasing thing is parking the bike on a hill so you leave the bike in gear when you turn off the bike. then when u come bak to the bike you turn the key and press the electric start to heat up the engine forgetting its in gear. had to make a couple of quick saves that way. makes you look like a reeeeealll noob

I had a PE400 that tore the sole off my shoe and a yammie xs650 that broke my ankle. The bonnie was a 2 kick bike that always impressed. The only time it wouldn't fire up was when I was too pissed to ride it.

When I was a lad I worked in a bike shop in Ponsnoby where SPQR is these days and after I'd pushed all the bikes out and cleaned up the oil ( they sold british bikes ) I had to start everything , only 2 bikes challenged me , a 750 Combat Commando and a GT750 Ducati that had been " tuned" both of these used to kick back something wicked

Had a similar one to this myself. Popped round to a mates place and found him running down the road with his bike jumping on it to crash start it and nothing...
so we pushed it up a hill... down the hill he went, popped it in to second gear let out the clutch 'splutter' nothing...rinse and repeat two more times...

me: breathless - the kill switch isnt on is it?
him: completely buggered - course it bloody isnt!!

one more try down the hill

    nothing

we both check the kill swith

Lots of swearing... the laughing came later in the day

After a long ride, coming back from Caramanderl I stopped by the petrol station at Kaiau. In from i see this awesome looking sport bike filling up just in from of my petrol station. After paying for "petrol", on my way to the bike i was wandering, "why in hell do they have BLACK pistols for petrol around here...." Then it suddenly hit me... A kind old fella at that station helped me flush diesel from my tank, so I could get a tank of proper 91 petrol for my VTR... Met that fella riding last week, he still finds that funny.
