    The Buells goin' down...

My mate popped around this morning with a brand spanking new Buell kindly loaned to him as a demo from AMPS.

Turned around in my driveway (camber there is a bitch) and the next thing I see him heading over for a low speed drop.
Broke the foot rest, brake lever, indicator, and put a gouge in the frame/tank.

I guessing that he could be described as 'unimpressed'.

Anyway - he called AMPS - they were really nice about it (he didn't need anymore stress).

He thought by the time he paid the excess he would be better off just buying the bike (excess was 2k). (He was wanting to buy one anyway)

What a bitch - getting a brand new bike and damaging it before you even get home.

Everybody worries about the high speed stuff...low speed stuff "happens" more often. two grand excess... no wonder they were nice about it. Those that spend their saturdays "test riding" might have to pay more than they thought if an oops happens. MUCH more.

    Nah.

I've end-overed one and seen another one hit a culvert at 80kph and they did around $3k worth of damage.

Actually dropping it and damaging it is weird - unless it didn't have the crash pucks fitted.

Sad to say no chash pucks were fitted. I'm guessing he will be buying a set for the bike now that it's going to be his.

its just a good point to realise , you may be ok about using a demo bike or borrowing a mates , or just getting to ride someones at the time .
Thats why i dont like to ride or borrow someones bike .
Its just so easy to do , drop the bike or it may not be your fault in an accident.

There are bike insurance policies that cover you for riding other people's bikes. I know I'm covered if I crash test riding!

I dont doubt your covered , but its interesting to know whats going to cost you as well, sometimes a lot more than the excess that we think it will.
