The "best" one? Probably the Zumo 550 - but they're not cheap.

The Zumo is the best but at $1500 it is bloody expensive. Have a look in the adventure biking forum (on kiwibiker) and search for "GPS" and there are a number of threads discussing this topic, well worth a read.

Many, many people have them attached to their bikes - there are tons opf brackets around also.

Tomtom do some nice motorbike friendly units called the rider:

depends how much you want to spend on a GPS. for bikes the Zumo is top of the line... I personally use the Garmin Quest. What every your choice ensure it does maps and has auto routing...

I have the Garmin 76 C X which has a smaller screen than the Zumo but it's easy to carry in my pocket for wandering around overseas as well as for use in the bike or car. At a shade under $600, it's good value for money too. I bought it through Logical Choice in Napier via Trade Me - excellent service.

I like Garmin because they're pretty reliable and available anywhere.

There are endless sources of NZ auto-routing software and it pays to shop around.

As well as being practical, they are cool fun! I went on a shopping trip to Hamilton from Coromandel today and programmed the GPS to avoid all main roads where possible. The result was a trip with virtually no other traffic on the road, other than the odd farm vehicle!

We got a Garmin Zumo 550 last week after looking around, liked that you could operate it with gloves, haven't been able to get it off hubby to play with yet so can't say if it's lives up to rep, but he seems happy with it (ie it hasn't been thrown, yet

    Gps

I have a Navman. It has a cig-lighter power feed. So I bought a water-proof cig-lighter from a marine store. I got it installed by a pro auto electrician. I my case the fitting fitted well into the top of the fairing.

Two strips of Valcro has the GPS attached to my tank.

Easy peezy. Better yet, except at real high speed, I can still hear 'Doris' talking me through the various turns. Hope that helps.
    Only 'Now' exists in reality.

I have a Uniden. Free on Flybuys.

It makes some unusual routing decisions but gets you there. I wired a cigarette lighter socket under the seat and I just put in the top part of my tank bag with the wire going down to the socket. It will last for an hour without power, but this was easier because it switches itself on and off with the key.

When I'm out I just slow down and look down at it as I get to intersections I'm not sure about. For the parts of the trip that I know I tend to not look at it.

It is fun to find your way around the back roads. But it doesn't care about metal roads (whereas I do).
