    Question Getting my seat recovered

The seat on my bike is pretty much f*cked, all split and even the duct tape isn't holding it together any longer!

Ive had a wee chat with Cajun cos his Dad in law did such a top job of Jim2's seat and he and I agreeed that b/c I want just a basic recovering job i.e. as little cost as possible, that I should look for someone local.

Soooooooooooo - does anyone know any good upholsterers in Wellington?
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

Why don't you see if it's possible to get a new replacement cover. I got one for my son's '91 SR250 from Richard's M/Cycles in J'ville. Sorry but it was a couple of years ago so I can't remember the brand. (And I had an upholsterer as a neighbour at the time - handy).

Anyway may be worth a try. As I recall it wasn't very expensive. Good luck.

It would have been Charmans Motor trimmers. Have had a couple of seats done by them, one I sent away as it needed the foam building up & the other I just got them to send me the cover for my KDX. Not hard to fit I can give you a hand. CB has a plastic seat base yeah?

Did you still need that lever tweaked?

Yeah CSL - I deal with Charmans in my business & they are very good. Give them a call, speak to Kimber. He is the owner & will look after you. PM me if you need more.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Charmans' price to totally refurbish both seats on your RR would be about $180, based on phone discussion with them just now.

I brought a sheepskin cover off Charmans for my CB900. Cost around $130 which I was happy with. Rang them up and told them what bike I had and they said they'd get one made up and sent it to me. Two days later it arrived - pretty damn good service!

Was thinking about getting the seat remoulded/covered for an even more comfortable ride on long journeys (which I seem to do a lot of) and was looking at getting that done at McDonald Motor Trimmers (www.trimit.co.nz) - they have some nice looking examples on their web site. He quoted me $450 which is to get the pillion part of seat remoulded mainly and a sexy new cover.

Just to let you all know. I popped into Charmans this PM with the Gixxer for a more accurate price. 2 piece sportsbike seat = $150 incl gst. CSL - your seat would be similar price as has extra layer of foam. That price is a total refurbish, not just a recover.

And it can lead to some interesting looks as you waddle around with a large wet patch on the seat of your jeans. (I presume).

Yeah there’s this guy with an XS650 that parks in the Hutt & has had a plastic rubbish bag for a seat for as long as I can remember. Like he would have replaced the cover with what it is costing in plastic rubbish bags. Another scooter (which I have to admit I am surprised still runs from the look of it) in the same park has the same look.
