You need 700mls of Motorex Top speed 4T 15W50....thats out of the manual and seems to work for me.
I assume you know how to check the level by removing the "control screw" hiding behind the rear brake lever...you fill the case until oil starts to flow out of this hole.

John Deere tractor transmission oil. Extreme pressure. suitable for wet clutches and it comes in 200l containers.

ATF and change it every second ride.

I use the recommended Motorex Gear Oil because it is cheaper than their equivalent 4T engine oil - I used to use the one full-synth 4T oil for all the bikes, but escalating prices made me look at alternatives - and it is likely a closer match to the job at hand as well.

It feels like it shifts slightly better than 4T engine oil, even after being run for a few hours.
    Cheers,
    Colin

About $6 a litre. I've used it for a couple of years now, no probs. Buy enough and they give you a cool John Deere cap.

My choice is what I choose to do,
And if I'm causing no harm, it shouldn't bother you.

A little cheaper than ATF then, any idea what the weight is???

Quite a lot of people seem to use ATF and have done so for years, so thats what I use. Nice and cheap too.

I use Motul but only cause I get it wholesale through a good mate.
Used and abused my engines in my Kart on ATF. Seems to be ok. We never changed our gearbox oil as often as you guys either. And thats also in a 125 engine, on methanol, with no clutch or even a clutch basket! The only cog on that side was to drive the power valve!
