Yeah went through a phase there at work, where i was buying those frozen half shelled ones and having a feed on the bbq after work dab of garlic butter on each as they heated up ! Yum Faark drooling here now ! Time to try on the wet suit, aww and new mask and snorkle and and where's my spear !

Good advice ! If they are slightly open before cooking 'em, give them a sharp rap or a flick with a finger. If they close up, they'll be ok (still alive). If not, toss 'em out.

That's because you over-cook the mussels and they taste like rubber. In fact that's what Aussies do with all seafood -- sear the living shit out of it.
