There's a lot more to it than that. I noticed in LA that there were no smoky vehicles, there is a WOF-style emissions test. 5000cc would be a small car over there, most people seemed to use things like Ford F250s as their single-person runabout car.

Then they have rubber boots over the fuel pump nozzles to contain the fumes as you fill your tank. But it means you can't see what's happening, so many bikes overflow raw liquid fuel when the auto-stop is slow... which is worse than just letting the fumes escape. So you can buy little plastic hooks to hold the boot up so you can see.

Or the horribly lean idle condition that means you have to over-use the choke to get the bike to warm up... thus pumping out more emissions than if the idle was set at a reasonable mixture.

I guess they are trying, which counts for something, and has had an overall good effect over the years.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Sorry Mate forgot to put the damn shortcut in DUH!!

Then have a look at this thread, http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=80658 read the recon costs and you'll understand why 2 strokes rule!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Here's a quote from my Bible ..... ( as quoted from a US Dirtbike mag ) ..." No-one can say they know all about dirtbikes till they've clicked through the gears on a KX500 with the throttle open "

Guess that applies to the big Honda as well, RIP the Cr500, feel sorry for the guys that have'nt had the chance to ride a 500 ,a bike that'll pull your arms and wheelie in any gear, far too much power is a damn good thing, don't have to use it but it's there if you want...hang on !
