Motorcycling,what exactly is it?

The years go by quicker and certain things my old man said when i was young and knew everything ring true from time to time have made me accept that yep "times are a changing" but just read of something titled "economy ride".I await the results with baited breath,was going to say "this is not a piss take" but to be honest wtf.Then again i guess at some stage the pony express guys got concerned about bales per state.

Yeah know what you mean. I ignore figures on fuel consumption except in terms of how many ks between filling a tank. And that's only an issue generally outside normal work hours which to be fair includes weekends when many of us are out there.

I almost got caught out coming down from Blenheim to Christchurch thinking I had plenty of fuel, but I was enjoying myself and the tank drained rather quickly. Luckily found a garage at Spotswood, north of Cheviot.

My take on it is that riding a bike is all about the experience and fuel economy is irrelevant. Hell I expect to use fuel

The journey is what its all about. Were you go, doesn't really matter. One time, when money was especially tight, I would worry about wearing out my tyres and chains quickly. Then, like a lightning bolt, I clicked, that's what they are for. The faster they get used, the more fun I have. Same with gas consumption. The faster I turn my wrist, the more gas I use, the more fun I have.

About the same time i read a thread saying "economy run".Then again maybe ive just been riding bikes for to long.Speaking of such crimes my leathers have a couple of bug spatters on em so best i go sort it out.Whilst at it i may well pop into the local church and beg forgiveness for my speeding offences.

There's quite a lot of skill required to do well in an economy run, all those clever hyper-mileing techniques.

But I agree, it is a little at odds with the traditional biker image.

Yep, I blinked a few times when I saw the that economy run thread too.

From someone who struggles to get out that often due to work commitments I can't wait to get home and use as many dead dinosaurs as possible, after all I'd hate for them to have died in vain.

It's not a problem - the whole thing about the economy run is to see who can come last (by applying the most hoonish behaviour possible) however there has to be some way of ensuring people don't just empty their petrol onto the ground.

heh, you can still scare people on an economy run.

Fuel economy had never occurred to me before I bought a bike. We had my wifes' 250 before I had my 650, and I never even thought about it. So I buy newish 650 in wellsford, gas it up, and ride it all the way home without refueling, and gas it up again, and I'm like "350kms on 15 litres, WTF I've made a mistake somewhere."

So I scare people economically ? Does that still count ?

rebellious ... last twenty two years been trying to show a different leaf......was rebellious as fuck from 9 to 26yr ... as for gas saving run's fuck off that's too P.C.
