To get a break from painting late yesterday afternoon, I rode over to Whitianga from Coromandel. Despite there having been no rain for a few days, there was water across the road in a few spots on the eastern side of the big hill just outside Coromandel town. Most of them are no big deal, quite narrow and just seepage from recent slips. However, about half way up right on a bend, there's a wider strip with actual running water and this is VERY slimy. With all the slips in that area, some underground water courses may have changed direction so some new drainage might be required. For anyone doing the Loop this weekend, be warned! Also, it's the Whitianga Scallop Festival, so watch out for an increased presence of the Highway Patrol but more importantly; idiots in cages.
Have a safe weekend,
Cheers,
Geoff

. No, you don't get a lot of warning as it's half way through a tight bend, but you do get enough. There's enough room to take an inventive line and keep the bike reasonably upright. Call in for coffee if you're on schedule! I see you're stuffed for ripping up the western side of the Firth with the road being blocked at Kawakawa Bay.
