Hints for accomodation in Nelson for the 1 dayer

Hi I've just added to the calendar for the one dayer, in fact it's for me and Grant who's not a KB'er. Never been to Nelson, or quite a few places on the route!, so I'd be grateful for some hints about a good place to stay for the nights of the 2nd & 3rd of Jan.

    Cheers Bish

You need to get over, drop yer crap off here, off to the Port Races for the day and then off to the Warewolf's Den for the BBQ dinner on Friday evening.

    Bacon and eggs?
You supply 'em, I'll cook 'em.

Thanks anyway but, the accomodation's now sorted. The BBQ and races sound good - we'll have to haul up there early and catch them.

One day entries here and two day entries here. If you are interested in the ride and haven't already please put your name on the calendar. I have heard from some non KBers from Chch so there is approx another 3 or 4 to add to the one dayer list. El Scooto ya lazy bugger stick you name on the one day list Current totals based on what I know is around 17/18 one day riders and 8 two day riders.

The start is going to be interesting this year - either have to stagger the start times for each group or people will have to be very conscientious of others behind them wanting to pass. Also had a few one day riders talking of wanting to start around 5am as the ride over the Mangatapu is in the semi dark anyway and light isnt needed on the seal from Pelorus to North Bank road but this means less time in the dark at the end of the ride when your are tired. Guess we can discuss this more at the BBQ.

As mentioned in the very first post it is best for the one day riders to form into small groups of riders (2 or 3) that all ride at a similar pace and have a similar stamina level. Big groups of riders tend to take to long to regroup, pass gates etc especially when spread out due to dust - is is the Dusty Butt after all.

Hopefully catch a few of you at the port races.

    Cheers R

Sounds good - always wanted to see the port races, can you put me down for the single bed?

I can bring the eggs / beer and cheer etc.

_ I'd also be up for a 5am start if there is a list being formed.

    Cheers,

    Very very keen....

    Hi all.
Yep, I am keen as mustard.
If I get the time off work, I will be there with bells on.
Can just rough it out there and sleep rough, eat rough and ride rough...lol
Are there route maps or do we tag along with the leader or follow someone that has done it before?
Newbie here, in fact it will be the first time in the South with a motorbike this time....

    Gidday Mark.

On my web site I have a page about the DB1k. On it there is a google map with the route overlaid and some topomaps. Eventually I'll put the updated roll chart and some GPS file up there as well (take your pick as to what works for you).

Plan is to use the Nelson Rowing Club Lodge at Lake Rotoroa ($10 pp) for the over night stop on the two day ride. Obviously if your a nutter your will be doing the 1 day ride which ideally doesn't have any sleeping stops - try and be home (back to NN) in less than 24 hours.

I'm sure you will have a ball with a bike around the upper part of the South Island.

    Cheers R

P.S. All the info you need is in the first post of this thread. I have tried to keep that updated with anything of significance to the ride.

Shane says that if the Surf is still working then he's up for the 2-day chase.
He can carry extra fuel/oil/tyres/food/tubes etc to lighten the load on the more sedate/new adventurers doing the 2-day.
