Speaking of roll charts and GPS thingames I've just updated the DB1k page such that there is a link to the latest roll chart and two GPS files. Can people download files/upload files to GPSr from the page and let me know if there are any problems. I think everything is OK but ya never know.

I'm especially interested in the GPS route files and making sure they work with various GPSr's out there.

    Cheers R

I'v just had a quick search of DB threads with no luck, so can anyone tell me if there are any specific rules in the DB1k09 ie. can you start at anytime on the 3rd (i'm keen to start at 3am'ish) and do you need photos to show that you made the full loop?

We have nice long stops though.

    It's a good long cruise.

The first rule of the Dusty is you don't talk about the Dusty...
    Hang-on... Something wrong there...

    Start whenever you're comfortable.
Take a photo of your speedo showing start mileage...
Close gates behind you... Be kind to children... Leave the sheep alone... That sort of thing.
    1000km later...

There are no rules. This ride is entirely for yourself edification i.e. can you handle the jandal. As such there are no rules re photos etc etc. You might like to take a photo of your bikes dash at the beginning with a watch with the time and date visible just as evidence to post on here at the later date for bragging rights etc.

Re starting time it is pretty much up to you but I would respectfully request that you think about your safety and group up with at least one other. It would ruin others (those not in your group) day if they had to give up on their ride to extract your from the molesworth or rainbow etc. I obviously cant force you to do this but I will add that I have been extracted from the Rainbow via chopper and it took 3 hours just to get the chopper after being located within 5 mins of my crash.

Harden up ya nancy boy You lot are only riding 550ish km hence even if you maintained the typical adv ride pace of about 50kph average it will take you ten hours. Edit - damn my math sux tonight. Make that 11 hours.

Um, I beleieve the molsworth is only supposed to be traversed between 7am and 7pm? which might make a 3am start a little early? or is it going to take you 4 hours to get to the first ranger station? Maybe it does, I don't remember and I'll still be in bed at 3am hell, I may have only just gotten to sleep.

Seven hours!!!! What the hell were you doing? I've done the 500km Nelson - Mangatapu - Molesworth - Rainbow - Nelson loop in March (okay, I didn't do Mt Altimarch) in 7 1/2 hours......mind you, if there was a cop on the Molesworth I might have lost my licence. Riding time around 6hrs 45min, food/fuel stops 45mins.
Katie-M loved it hard and fast.....and I slept well afterwards.

[QUOTE=Padmei;1819611]How are you making your ralye style fairing? I'm about to attempt a larger screen on Gonzo!

I just made a shorter screen for my @ ,Its pretty easy to shape that fancy perspex stuff by heating it over a gas ring (didnt have a heat gun)
Its got quite a few marks on it and looks a bit rough but if I spent another $20 on a new piece of plastic Im sure I could make a nice one ,but what the hell ,I get a lot less buffeting with a shorter one

Sweet that is good to know.

All - There was an error with the gps files on the web page re uploading to a GPSr but I have sorted that now. Hopefully all it working but let me know if there are any more issues. I'm especially keen for somebody with a in car type GPSr (peach you zumo would be a good test) to have ago at uploading the routes.

    Cheers

The routes work fine on my Quest but I sold my good Legend and my old one needs some persuasion with a soldering iron before it'll talk to the computer.
