    Agreed,
I think you want to aim to get out of the Porika the second time around while still having some
    daylight left.

Oh and I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the 1 day as well.
Its pretty close to the Hamner Springs Safari on 10-12 Jan, just trying to
work out travel plans at the moment.

It wasn't for the faint hearted and if I do it again, won't be doing such high speeds on the shingle again.

It is a fun event not a race and I would hate to see anyone hurt trying to match or beat a certain time

Thanks for the comments Matt. Hopefully they put it in perspective for those with ideas of trying to do it in under about 19 hours.

Damn you fullers - the temptation is growing. I even have an excuse - a new bike.

I'm doing the 2 day. For me riding for 2 days over excellent roads & trails beats feeling tired & uncomfortable for 24 hrs. I could see the concentration effort being quite high too.

the concentration effort is bloody obscene, it really is constant heavy concentration, cause you always know uve got a long way to go. and you always know u want to get to the end.

really big trust in ones concentration, corners in dusty dark extreme tired conditions at a decent pace, argh , the idea is just a bit weird :P

Apparently I was talking mostly gibberish when wifey met me at the end of the 08 run. Transalper was very close to the end of his tether in Wakefield so we cruised back into NN. Warewolf seemed OK to me but I wasn't in a state to judge. The mental load the 1 day run is very significant.

Put me down for the 1-day too. It sounds pretty tough but worth doing once.

    lol, Ditto
When we got back to the lodging, Scotty and I were just sitting at the table staring into space.
MagicFairy cooked us up a nice feed, which we didn't think we wanted.
Until the 1st mouthful, then we couldn't eat it fast enough.

Not surprising considering the only food we'd had was a constant supply of
"One Square Meals" and water. Plus a few garage pies and Red Bulls

( all the major food groups )

    Arrow Two day riders accommodation

We have accommodation sorted for the night of the 3rd of Jan for the two day riders. Padmei through his associations with the Nelson Rowing Club has managed to get access to their lodge at Lake Rotoroa. Three rooms that sleep 6 and camping space if necessary. The cost will be $10 per person for the night. There is a good chance that vehicle will be travelling between NN and Lake Rotoroa that will be able to carry food, beers, camping gear etc.

    Cheers R

Actually that is a common theme amongst the keenest Grand Challenge chaps... "Hmm wonder what it'll be like on this bike?"

I also felt we stopped too long in the Molesworth a couple of times. It would be easy for us to trim 90mins from our time without it becoming much more rushed or tiring. And the benefit is you wouldn't be up so late at night.
    Cheers,
    Colin
