    DR650 Brake Upgrade

Is there a quick n nasty mod for the front brakes on a DR650?

Loaded up with me n the panniers, I find the front brake a little soft for panic seal stops - fine on gravel etc but I'd prefer a bit more stopping power on the highways.

Would SSteel brake lines and something like this help?

I ended up with a SS braded line. It gives you more feel but I'm not sure that there is necessarily more power. In saying this I was generally 2 finger braking before and 1 finger braking afterwards. Might have just been a change in skill and riding technique though. Bout $100 for the SS line that was made for my bike.

Braided lines might help but have you tried going to a softer pad material. If you go from sintered to organic or street to race they won't last as long but they may give you better braking.

Ahhh - that could help without a major - I have a spare set of pads here from the agents in Dunners - marked - "BRPRMPR126, 45/06 Sintered" - my presumption is that these are not necessarily the "soft" type.

OK - SS lines and some softer pads ... thanks very much ... appreciated.

The stainless lines help get rid of the "ABS" or "squishyness" type feel at the lever.
Even with just ss lines I've never grabbed a handfull even in an emergency.
1 finger normally, 2 fingers for heavy and 3 for needing to stop NOW!
