Hey guys, learner here. I'm really keen to get into these rides, of course, but just wondering what sort of times they take? And have the pubs you've stopped at ever had problems with under 18s coming in? I don't plan to do any drinking, but it'd be a shame to be told to wait outside with all the bikes I've ever dreamed of to stare at for a while. Well, a shame in a relative way then. Anyway thanks for setting these up, and I'd love to join in in a couple of weeks.

2-3 hours but thats after we stop, I am generally not rushing away so I can get home by 2130 to get ready for work.

Most of the places we seem to end up have outdoor areas or are family restaurants so its normally all good.

The road to Akaroa is nice, grit free and no nasty suprises lurking

There is some shite (cow) on the road over the back of the wheat chief

WNRace meets the same place and time

Yep. Evans Pass should be avoided, Dyers Pass is good and the Diamond Harbour road is mostly ok, with just a few dodgy patches

Should be no trouble, I would wait outside with you if required. The publicans we have met have been quite accommodating though, I doubt there would be any trouble.

evans had 10m of grit at the very top yesturday, but you slow down and are upright for it anyway as it's an intersection with blind spots everywhere.

other than that the road works around the otherside still dont seem to have done anything.

It's the road works thats the bad part. Did you come up the Lyttleton side? Wasn't really fun

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the offer imdying, but yeah with any luck we won't have any worries. Plus my helmet hair pretty much obscures my face, so who's going to know? haha.

sumner side, was clean as a whistle till the very top.

by the time i got to the road works id caught up to a cager...

though by summer i'd expect they would've finished their work as that bit of road is quite popular in summer

I'm a beginner, only done 130km on the Scorpio, bike's still breaking in so can only go about 70km/h on the flat. Would that be OK or at least wait till it's done 500km first?

Unfortunately (well not for me I like gravel) SDU is right. Travel demand has nothing to do with the timing of road works - the weather is a far more important factor.
