Agreed re: logic (and let's not even mention common sense!)
And totally agree with you regarding the dimwits that can't even see red & blue strobe lights.....but, the indicators when U-turning would be nice for the small percentage of us that do take riding/driving seriously and do pay attention to these things, in fact as professional drivers this should really be a 'second nature' thing anyway, like automatically putting on a seat belt when you hop in the cage.....oh, that's right I'm a minority again!

I'm developing a new pet peeve with dumbarse drivers lately, I can't believe the number of people that pull out right in front of oncoming traffic (and no, not just bikes, in one instance it was a 40 ton semi-trailer unit...) especially when there is nothing coming behind the vehicle they pull out in front of..............risking death or injury (obviously they didn't notice the TV ad either..) to gain a nanosecond advantage - absolutely unfucking believeable, oh and no this isn't in Auckland, it's actually on Patricks beat.
You'd think nobody would be in that much of a hurry down here....

Right, this rant endeth for now...

    Scumdogs theory of the road:

The more a driver/rider pulls out on front of you and inconveniences you (and causes you to brake) - the more likely they are to turn-off at the next drive-way or side-street.

Need to brake only a little? - they will carry on for ages before turning off.

Have to slam on the anchors? - they'll turn off at the next available side street.

Try it, you'll see it's true!!(most of the time)

Lets put things in perspective, a Kiwi cop is still a Kiwi driver who are notorious for some sad driving...it's the general driving standards in NZ which are generally bad, it's not just about cops.
I am sure for high speed pursuits they have the training but this was just basic driving skills and down to general road attitudes.

We got to do that up at Whenuapai Air Base... only for the Sgt running it to go off at me for losing control. Funny how the S/Sgt in the car at the time thought it was the best piece of driving he had ever seen....

Yep... driving like a nana is just how they like it.

Funny you should mention that.... I thought it was just me noticing this annoying habit that is becoming more frequent of late, it seems. But I have also noticed that Naki drivers are inconsiderate pricks at the best of times, who will not allow anyone to merge in front of them, or let others pull out of the supermarkets into the stationary lines of traffic - they would rather park over the supermarket exits than let someone get in front of them......

Maybe its the crap rugby team....

i don't even have to try this experiment.....I know from experience that you are 100% spot on with this one scumdog!!

It's along the same lines as the guy that just has to pass you (usually on double yellow lines/blind corner/limited visibility...the list goes on) even if you are travelling at moderately over the speed limit, lets say 107-110km/h - he'll either take the next turn off/drive way or whatever - or worse still slow down by around 15km/h on average once they pass.

I lived in Hamilton for around 20 years (on the whole, not bad driving observed), moved to Auckland for about 7 years for the job I had at the time (don't need to comment on driving habits there...) and have been in the Naki coming up on 8 years. When I first moved here it was a pleasure driving and riding around the place, but this carry-on seems to have started about 18mths ago and just seems to be getting worse.
Have we had a bunch of imports from up North come here lately?!

I've always said I much prefer driving in peak hour traffic in LA to Auckland, might have to start extending this to the North island now....
I wonder if US drivers are more considerate on the whole because you never know who might be carrying a weapon?

Having moved here from Auckland 7 years ago, I noticed it even back then... Auckland was (and still is) much more considerate than here, but the traffic flows of course are much smaller here, so it wasn't such a biggie.... Now I am getting acclimatised to the driving here, it is getting a tad annoying.....

    Is there another Auckland??
I guess it does depend on time of day and where you are actually driving in Auckland....and I suppose with a greater concentration of people, there's always going to be a similarly greater number of
And at least up there there is some excuse (sort of/twisted logic..) as there is a large volume of traffic and greater distances to travel and more pressure on most folks.
But here where there isn't the traffic volume and the drive from one side of town to the other is measured in minutes rather than hours i just cannot understand it.
I think 'tad annoying' is a bloody understatement Patrick! lol

I recon it comes down to consideration for others ! In Auckland ppl are used to congestion and wave ppl in (one for one works anywhere) driving trucks taught me patience big time (yeah i pulled out in front of ppl when i got sick of the non believers, funny thing was, they slowed and let me in too)

Tell ya what is annoying is failure to know how to merge ! (hand in hand with failure to let ppl merge) I'm sorry if i upset anyone here but i have great pleasure in educating the mofo's beside me (who failed to see me as i was merging) that at 100 km in a merging lane i'm coming across (not a problem on the bike, they just sad mofo's then, but it helps that i don't give a rats arse about the cars panel work) ! But its the scared nana parked at the end of the merging lane that gets me worked up the most !
A/ she should know to speed up to the limit prior to the end of the lane and merge
B/ penilties for not allowing ppl to merge should be loss of licence for 3 months (that teach some manners)
I'm sorry but NZ drivers are a sad bunch and the driving test should be upgraded to a way higher level !
Give me ten v8's patrick and a minimal salary (plus copious amounts of stress relief) and send em all my way Bwahahahahaahaa
Be throwing all sorts at them !!!!!!!!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Yeah, dead right - common courtesy would go a long way on NZ roads.

After many years of trying to improve NZ driving by leading by example, I've personally given up showing courtesy. Flash your lights to signal to someone that you've seen them and are giving them the opportunity to let them in and the idiots are looking the other way at an empty road! WTF?

My policy now is fuck 'em. It's actually a hard habit to break, perhaps even harder than breaking the complete and utter discourtesy habit that the rest have always practiced.

If you can't beat them, join them.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
