Well riding over here without a helmet is illegal for one. I'm curious as to how the road surface is more forgiving in America?

So, kinda like a smoother grain of sandpaper HAHA. Nevertheless I would'nt want my bare arse sliding down the road no matter how smooth the asphalt is
Glad to hear that you are looking to get some gear though

I get completely frustrated by the guys I see wearing next to nothing. I've seen 1 guy around Wellington city on 2 seperate occasions wearing shorts, t-shirt and those slip in sandals!! WFT!! How could ya even change gears properly.

It sounds like the guy Frosty is speaking of is stupid and dangerous though.

    Dude Please listen up
Noone gives a flying toss where you're from. Stupid is stupid.
My opinion re riding gear is different from what i actually do myself.
Minimum riding gear I'd suggest would be -Full faced helmet or MX helmet and goggles, leather gloves that cover your wrist.Boots that cover at least to the ankle bone, decent weight trousers. A jacket with elbow and shoulder scrape protection.
With that gear on you have a chance of not loosing skin
I ride mostly with full leathers ,bike boots, quallity gloves and helmet and a back protector.
Ive fallen of twice recently on the track and on the road and both times the quality of my gear was what saved me from serious injury.
Ohhh and hey--welcolm to motorcycle heaven.

Not sure about the full helmet thing im kinda pratial to the beanie hemets cause i like feeling the wind, but with the bugs and stuff hitting me in the face all the time i think im gonna start wearing my full helmet more. I have a leather jacket that i wear with me all the time here if not for the protection but for the fact that it gets colder at night here. Anyway im still looking for better gear hopefully a jacket with the shoulder, back and elbow protection like you said. and some leather pants now not chaps with the knee protection and maybe some new boots and gloves. Got a laundry list of stuff i need to get but right now i dont have the money

Wearing all the patches an badges an other cartoons their so well know for, with "Roman sandles".
Oh yeah,an the guy on the bright orange MEAN STREAK
shorts, singlet, bare feet, trying to race me on the Manukua heads road yesterday. But he did have a $1000 helmet so he must of been safe huh!
Them MEAN STREAKS make lots of noise, don't go round corners but

Coming up the NW just now and was passed by a sportsbike - he had a sweatshirt, sleeves pushed up to the elbow, shorts and sneakers, she had a very short skirt and sneakers - oh,and both had very flash full face helmets. The Harley going the opposite way at exactly the same time was well prepard for his day out - Johnny Rebs, leather trou and jacket with gloves...oh,but he had an open face helmet, what a wanker - but I know which of the two bikes riders will come off better in a crash.
