Arrrr, when I were a lad, we didn't have restricted or learners, no, we'd just go to the police station and get a provisional (answer five questions correctly I think it was) and that was good for a few months to learn. No capacity limits. Don't think you could carry a pillion with a provisional, though. Anyway, got that, then borrowed a BSA 650 Lightning from the local shop, rode it down to Lower Hutt, did the test, got the full license, rode home. That was in 1970. Had the full car licence a year before that
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
